A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How hard is it to find carbs for a 1978 Honda Goldwing GL 1000?

I have a '78 Honda Goldwing parts bike, shoot me a pm, I think I got both carburetors, we could settle on a price.

:oops:OOPS!!!! You're right, I just went over to the storage lot and looked at it. I do have all four carbs, I'm just missing the inlet chambers that bolt to the heads, someone stole them when it was sitting outside at an abandoned house. A friend of mine gave me the bike, I thought of restoring it, but I've got too many other things to get done, so I'm going to part it out, sell the whole bike if someone wants it, got the title and all that good stuff........:-D
I really hate to tell you this, Dan, but in 1978 they had four carbs.

They did not go to two carbs until 1988 when they came out with the 1500. 8-[

.

Let me see if I actually get the bike first. Its being sold for $400 and I want it to be my next project.

BTW Dan, I saw a 78 goldwing sold for $7,000 (fully restored).

Youd have to ask him more about it, but RageZro mentioned to me the other day when I was over there that there is a house near him with two "older" Goldwings sitting on the side of it rotting. Likely there might be some salvageable parts for pretty cheap, or perhaps a restorable bike if someone is looking for such.

I *ALMOST* bough a 79? I think it was Goldwing last summer for 1700 in restored and running tip top condition. It was just simply a little bulky for my taste, but looking back, i kinda wish i had. I have recently seen some bad a$$ Wing bobbers and cafes done. Would make for a hell of a project.

I found out some more info. Its either an 83 or 80 model not 78. The bike was running when he got it but started selling parts off of it years ago. It is missing the carbs, the saddle bags and the plexi glass on front faring, right and left side covers (from what I could see). If I get this bike, its going to be sunday before its in my possession. I will then look it over and put in parts requests.

I'm getting excited, always wanted one.

Here it is - I have not heard back from the seller regarding it today (patience is a virtue I guess):

I finally heard back from him. Its a deal \\:D/I am picking it up Sunday. Guy is so nice he's giving me a 45 day grace period to come up with $200 (its $400 total).

Dan, (or anyone) but specifically Dan - is a 78 set of carbs compatible with an 80 model?

No, not 100%. From 76-79 they had minor changes every year. May "work", but won't be exact. Not sure how much changed in '80.
FWIW, a couple of great places to research are http://nakedgoldwings.com/. They have a forum there very similar in helpfullness to the GSR--http://www.nakedgoldwings.com/forum/?&MMN_position=2:2. A lot of the threads require a free registration, like here.

For carb info, the (almost) unquestioned guru is at http://www.randakks.com/. I bought his Master Card Kit for my '79, and it was the best money ever spent. Loads of info & tips there. Good Luck!!

Thank you :-D

I found a Goldwing forum called "Steve Saunders Goldwing Forum" and plenty of retirees in there with Goldwings to shake a stick at ;) It appears to be a very friendly bunch.
