I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Not Brand New, But New

hello everyone, im not even sure what my user name was ~15 years ago (literally). I searched both emails that could've been used at the time. Bought an '83 GS850G from an older man in the neighboring county after seeing it on Craigslist listed as a Suzuki Custom. At the time i was looking for, pretty much the best bang for my buck. At the time being 24 with a GS, i thought i made the perfect gamble. Boy, was i right. Absolutely fantastic bike! More of an INTERMEDIATE bike for sure with the weight and the power of a dialed in one.

For the ones that recognize me or remember the bike, I'M BACK..you know the rest.

After chasing what i thought at the time was running too rich, blah blah, i honestly didnt know what i was really doing as far as tuning on the bike, but i got it running great for what i had at the timne and the knowledge from this forum. I thought the V4 guys were great, this site is the same. I've had a small V4 back in 2015. Sold right before i found the GS.

I still have all the photos i took before i even took it off the center stand. moved it from the shed it was stored in for ~15 years prior to me getting it in Feb 2015. Its amazing what a little elbow grease will do. The bike was parked in my storage unit back in..Jan 2018? parked because it had issues that needed to be sorted, the tach leaked oil pretty bad, still does havent done that job yet, needs studs for the oil cover, and carb boots were TOAST. And i knew that after taking the carbs off the first time. I bought a house in July 2018, rolled the bike into a pickup, and moved it into the garage of the new home. Nice little 6x9 area in a corner, covered up out of the elements for almost 8 years or so. Rolled it out a few months ago, filled the carbs up with whatever was in tank, and i fired up, ran decent but i dont remember it running as well as it did. Ran it for a bit, few revs, let the carbs run out and then put it back in.

After getting a 86 VT500 sorted, what a headache these ones are, 83-84 same bikes, 85-86 are the same, and both 85-86 have small differences I believe in the main wiring harness! wild stuff, Honda had a few weird bikes, and also PITA to work on, etc CB900c, the airbox made me sell that one.

Slowly things will be getting done on the 850 now, its not much work with the knowledge i have gained over the years.

The carb insulators were done yesterday, new bolts seals hardware. They werent leaking from where the rubber and aluminum meet, from the bottom of the insulator past the seal, i have pictures the seals were completely flat and almost plastic. These are genuine oem parts as well.

Replaced the oem petcock put on 10yrs ago, the old one is still good and will be rebuilt, its a smart move to just replace it now.

Didnt strip the carbs but did a quick rebuild, im most likely going to go a newer route on the carbs, i just need to do some measurements, i havent even searched on the forum yet. I had an account on here, made pretty much the same day i bought it, i mightve got it running and then made the account on vice versa.

Im pretty sure i logged in 5yrs ago? didnt think my account would get deleted in that time, or did something just happen with the site? Genuienly curious to see if i can get back in that one.

Anyway guys, currently looking for the carb rebuild file on the BS32SS, im sure i'll find it after this post and will edit accordingly. :dancing:

Welcome back Jprice. I probably wasn't around yet when you were more active on this site, nonetheless, Welcome!

Curious about your "going the newer route " with the carbs. Did you mean new cleaning methods, like ultrasonic, or different carbs?

something different and a newer more efficient carbs. we'll see how these perform :encouragement:

Gotcha. Well, I'm really curious now. I haven't heard of any more efficient carbs for these 8 valve GS's than the stock Mikuni BS32. I can think of one 850 that's running a single carb with a custom manifold. That, as I recall, is more out of necessity and didnt yeild any gain in power. Grimly has done quite a bit of engineering to get it running well.

There was another member several years ago putting together a fuel injection system for one. Hopefully they'll post again sometime with an update.

i could never get these carbs dialed in nothing worked, maybe with the new insulators we will be good.

there are definitely more options for carbs but you have to do your homework an get proper measurements. im keepin stock airbox either way. EFI sounds cool, but what a project.
