    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

o rings - reuse or replace?

I've been kinda wondering how almost all repair directions including the excellent carb rebuild series here mentions to replace all o rings. Is it really necessary? If a ring is not deformed, cracked and clearly has flexibly does it really have to be replaced? I'm looking for a technical reason not just, well it's a good idea....

If your truly "rebuilding" your carbs - then you should replace them, if your just cleaning them and you think they're OK, re-use them ... It's just a little easier to trust the entire setup when you've replaced any/all parts that can be. 8)

The O-rings are probably the least expensive parts to replace during a rebuild.
 
Always order new o-rings no matter what part of the bike you are repairing and chuck the old ones out. All rubber GS parts are past their life expectancy and have turned hard.

for 12 bucks, email robert barr, and get new rings.


if the original ones lasted long, you can then justify leaving these ones in for a while!
 
Technical reason? Deterioration. That, is inevitable. It Does Happen, it has happened, and Is happening right now. And in most cases, Has been happening for (Insert age of bike here) odd years....Don't be a cheap bastard, replace them! :P oh, by the way, Welcome to the GSR!!! You wil find a wealth of info here, just ask!

Yup I already connected with Barr and will ordering lots of rings, they are cheap!

o-rings

o-rings

I haved worked with o-rings for a few decades and found that if you let o-rings set in WD-40 overnight or more they will come back to the OEM shape.

PB B'laster claims to revive O rings too. I'd just as soon replace tho'.
