    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Odd problem this morning

Like the title says... As I got off work this morning and went out to start up the bike, I accidentally double tapped the starter instead of just holding it down. This caused the bike to not start and make an odd click noise. The best part was when I went to try and start it again, all the lights went out and it wouldn't start, as if I had killed the electrical system or something.

So many expletives later, I decide to try popping the clutch. I backed it out of the space and thought what the heck, I'll try the starter again once more, and to my joy, it fired right up with no problem (which is good since I'm not really sure HOW to pop the clutch).

Ah yes, the point... Has this ever happened to anyone else? Did I do some damage to the starter or other electrical system items?

You didn't do anything wrong so relax about that. The starter solenoid may be getting old or the connections corroded. You might want to check the battery cables and make sure they are clean and solidly attached. If you continue to have problems try shorting the starter solenoid to see if the starter turns that way. If not, the starter needs some attention.

Edit: one other thing to check is the clutch interlock switch; the bike will not turn over unless the clutch is pulled in - maybe the switch is not working properly.

had a similar problem when i got my gs.. i simply bypassed the switch. i don't think i've ever hit the starter button when i've either a, made sure it's in neutral or b, had the clutch pulled in ( often, both ) so i don't feel to bad about it :)
 
Not to hijack a thread but, you need to pull in ur clutch to start?

My clutch switch is still active. I have to pull in my clutch in order to start, but it will start in gear. Many bikes also have to be in neutral in order to start, unless that switch has been defeated.

Nixed my clutch switch as well. I dont ever park my bike in gear unless its on a hill, in which case i would know to check it before hitting the starter button. I found it very aggrevating to have to pull the damn lever in when i wanted to warm up the bike while i got my gear on. Generally, my hands were full of gear, and its nice to be able to put the key in, turn it, SEE that its in neutral, and hit the starter without having to uload my gear from my hand(s) to do so.
