    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OEM paint color 1982 suzuki gs1100EZ

I am trying to find the original color code or name for the 82 gs1100E. I know its "red" but i was wondering if there was a code or a more specific name for it.
 
This topic comes up regularly. The answer is to look at the OEM parts fishe in the "Optional" tab. The paint color codes show there.
 
The Candy Fancy Maroon for the 1982 GS1100EZ is no longer available due to some of the pigments in the color being outlawed in the state of California. I did an exhausting search for the paint color and finally ended up going to the largest auto dealer in my area that sold multiple brands and models. Turns out that the 2010 Dodge Ram truck and 2010 Dodge Charger were painted with a color that they call, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl, it's a perfect match.

I added the fairing and new side covers and as you can see, the color is a perfect match. By the way, the labeling on the side covers is painted on and not a decal like the original, the only way you can tell is if you realize that the spacing between the S and the 1 on the GS1100E is actually twice the spacing than the original.

Anyway, I don't want to fill this thread with the long drawn out story of how I found the color and what led me there, I've posted this many times here and even started a thread of my own when I first found the color unfortunately, the original thread has made it's way into the abyss and has run its course.

That bike looks fantastic! I have the same bike, same color. Just starting project on it to restore it. Will need total repaint. Can I ask: where did you buy the paint or did you get the formula from Dodge to replicate?

I just went down to the local paint supply and bought the paint, its paint code PRH as can be seen in the third photo. Just go down to the local paint supply and tell them that you need the Inferno Red Crystal Pearl for a 2010 Dodge Ram and tell them that the paint code should be PRH. They should pull out the paint books and verify the code for you and after that, they will mix it up for you. A quart will do the whole bike and leave you with some for future use.

If you go to a local auto paint store and tell them you want paint for the "2010 Dodge Ram truck and 2010 Dodge Charger were painted with a color that they call, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl" they can look up a formula in a multitude of different types of paint.

Edit: wacky posted while I was typing. Just do what he says...

The paint job is much farther down the line, but seeing your Bike, Wacky, makes me psyched to get there. This (picture below) is the current state of my GS1100E which I recently bought (I paid very little). She runs ok, but as you can see I have paper bags underneath the bike to "catch" multiple fluid leaks. My plan is take 18 months to work through all of the issues, starting with the carbs and addressing the rest one at a time. I am new to MC mechanics, so this is my "learning" bike. I bought it specifically to use to teach myself. Thanks for the picture of what it might be on the other end of work.

I can tell that that is gonna be a really nice bike when you finish, looks like you have a very good starting point.
As you need help, there are a lot of really good people here who will be able to assist in many ways. It's amazing the amount of knowledge that is contained on this site. Also, any parts you need, remember that there is a section on the forum with parts for sale along with a parts wanted section. I've bought many, many parts from guys here on this site and cannot say enough good about every single one of the members here, it's like one big huge functionally dis functional family. Welcome to the family!

No problem. I went through a very long and exhausting search for the color and tried every possible way of finding it that was suggested by other members and ran into road blocks at every step. Because I couldn't find the matching color, I came real close to having the bike painted Inferno Orange Crystal Pearl, it's the color of the 2009 and 2010 Chevy Camaro.

I have two other 1982 GS1100EZ's, one I'll use for parts and the other will be resurrected. When it comes time to paint the other one, I haven't decided yet if I want to paint it Inferno Orange Crystal Pearl or the nice solid orange that they use on the Dodge Challenger.

Anyway, I'm glad I was able to help with your color search and,,,,,,,, welcome to the functionally dysfunctional GS Resources family.

The pictures I used in the previous post were taken in 2010 or so, I decided to add a picture I took a couple days ago, still looks good and matching after seven years.

Hey Wacky, I'm guessing that's a base / clear paint. I spray a Beech flight control nearly every week with a PPG single stage. Direct gloss. No clear required. Now and then there is a metallic stripe that is a base with a clear over it. I'm gonna paint my fender and tail cowl this winter with the dodge paint. Just curious how you laid it down.

It was real easy for me, I just went down to the paint supply, bought the paint then, handed it to a friend of mine who does all my paint stuff.

I really dont know how he applied it, I'm always just in awe of his abilities. I need to post some other pictures of other things he's painted for me.
He always makes painting and sheet metal work look and seem so easy.
 
Hi Wacky, Follow up question: I am assuming the faring is after market. Who makes it and where did you find it? Or did it come with bike? Thanks

Yep, it's after market. I looked and cannot find any sign of the guy I bought it from, he had a little business by the name of Nationals Fiberglass on eBay but, for whatever reason he doesn't seem to exist in the system anymore. He did a phenomenal job creating it. Back in the 80's there was a company called Greer that offered these, I actually have a Greer that I purchased from another member here on the GSR last year. I do have a second GS1100EZ that I bought the fairing for but, at the speed I'm going, it'll be ten years before I'm ready to use it.
