    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finally got the oil cooler fully installed and tested. Not a 100% success (yet).:oops:

Napa oil pressure sensor used. Since these photos were taken the size of some of the fittings was increased...but you get the idea.

Used an Earl's cooler, the curved motorcycle model. These are normally intended to be mounted with the curve facing forward but I mounted it backwards since it fit up to the bike better this way (my opinion).

The fittings are -6 AN type. Seems to flow fine; can't notice any difference in oil pressure as measured by the gauge.

Now the bad: that Napa oil pressure gauge throws the oil pressure light every time the rpm's drop below 2000.:mad: The stock oil pressure sensor is more of a switch that senses if there is oil flow; it has a spring loaded plunger that gets pushed up by the oil flow. The Napa sensor is looking for a specific amount of pressure - 1.5 psi, which is not there at idle once the engine is warm.

So looks like I'm going to have to figure out how to fit the stock oil pressure sensor on my take-off, either that or live with the light coming on all the time. Best laid plans...

And another thing, make sure you use some rubber bushings (piece of fuel line cut into a washer) to isolate your oil cooler from the frame, other wise the vibrations will probly kill your cooler, thats what happend on my lockhart cooler on my 1k and my jc whittney cooler on my 550 has a nice crack developing.

Hey Ed, are those coolers readily available? And what/how did you end up mounting it? Doesnt a guy on here make oil cooler taps with sensors specificly for our bikes??

I have a adapter that alows the use of the stock switch. it's yours if you want it.

I think the stock switch cuts in at about .5 psi.

That's the one Ryan, got the number from a thread you posted earlier (btw, thanks).

Oil pressure on my bike runs about 3 psi @ 3000 rpm with the oil fully up to temperature - higher with colder oil. The pressure is within spec according to the service manual so I'm comfortable with that.

Cooler is rubber mounted: two grommets on the bottom and one on top. Doesn't float a whole lot but something there. If you look close at the photos, you can see the grommets (they have a much larger diameter than the screw heads).

The cooler is an Earl's motorcycle jobby. Cost me $103. Very sturdy feeling piece. Mounting ears are kind of funky since they are on the side - had to fabricate brackets which took me a LOT of time to get where I wanted them.

I did something a little different on my 1100 as far as oil cooler mounting location. I got my hands on a oill cooler from a Buell XB and mounted it on the left side of the forward frame of the bike. I wanted as much cool air to reach the head as possible and did not want to oil cooler to preheat the air flow. It also resulted in a lower mounting height for the cooler thus requiring less pressure to pump the oil through it - not much but every little bit helps.

It looks weird but works well.
