Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey all im a proud owner of a 91 gs 500 which ive made into a street fighter i would love to add a engine oil cooler but am unsure of were i can pick up an return the oil after cooler to can anyone please direct me to a image or something that i can source such info cheers guys an girls t

Get an engine casing from a 2004+ bike and use the once built into the engine, Besides that there isn't any easy way except to make your own oil filter cover and use a remote oil filter.

Cheers heaps mekanix just curious which side would i be chasing thou

Definitely the bottom half of the case. I'm not 100% certain, but the fittings and all routing are in the bottom half.

It should be fairly easy to find a late model GS500 motor though. Where are you located tubbz?

Hey big rich yeah i firgured bottom problem i have is ill probs have to order it throu suzi an i no they can be hard to work with at times lol im on the gold coast of australia what about yourself

Eastern part of the US.

Hopefully somebody with more experience than myself chimes in, but I believe you'll need a matching set of cases. Something makes me think of the main bearings around the crankshaft.

But the GS500 is a fairly popular bike in OZ, isn't it? Due to the learner laws you folks have......either way, good luck man. Hopefully it all works out for you.

To easy rich cheers for the info ill keep checkin in here in hope that someone to hopefully fill me in

Case halves are machined for bearing sizes but if you look at the back of the case you can find the bearing size needed for that case.

You need the letters on the back of the case and the leters on the crank and counter ballance shaft.

Put the letter on the crank together with the letter on the case and that tells you that you need shim A B or C, they are actually color coded for the sizes but you get the idea.

Best thing to do is get a whole engine or just bottom end so that you at least have something that is machine matched.

But the other way to go is to remove the oil filter cover and tap the two holes in there. Then install fittings and run lines from there to an external filter ( could even use a screw on filter) and then run the lines to your cooler. Just keep the lines big enough to not choke the oil flow.

You could use something like an automotive transmission cooler.

Thanks heaps mekanix this is what im after ill try. Hunt around but first up pull my cover off see what im dealing with an yes i was planning on running dash6 fittings lines etc an a decent size trans coola to suit the dash 6 hopefully an can just source the crank case but if all else fails at least i now no how to go throu the oil filter case instead

Just be careful when your taping the holes in the case if you go that way. Try and keep all the filings out and even flush the ports out after your done.
