    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil Drain Plug stripped pan

I need help here. My drain plug is holding on to the pan I don't know how. I am afraid it will come out at anytime now.
What should I do? redo the pan's thread and adapt a bigger plug? or maybe just buy a new pan and the heck with the old one?
Is there another alternative?
Help!

As a temporary fix, you might try wrapping the bolt with teflon tape. I have heard you can buy slightly oversized drain plugs, but I'm not sure. Anyone?
 
Seach for a thread on oversized self-tapping drain plugs. As I recall, at least one of the posters said Napa carried them.
 
Heli-coil....I know the make 'em that big 'cause my drag bike was done by the PO.

Was your original plug a 1.25 thread? Looks like you used a 1.5 thread oversize.

It may have been. It wasn't something oddball that made a conventional fix a bit of a bother.
 
You can get temporary plugs at most auto stores. It's basically a big rubber plug- looks kinda pornographic...

I had one in there for about 10k miles:shock: worked fine. Do that until you have the time to pull the drain pan and heli-coil it (I suggest winter)
 
just had the same thing happen on mine,
went to autozone they had single and double oversize drain plugs available, just take in your old one and they should be able to match you up an oversized, self tapping one. then just take your time putting it in and you are good as new, without all the headache of a helicoil.
