A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So am I reading correctly that the 83 GS1100 E models use the same oil filter that my 78 GS1000 does? Is the o-ring gasket the same too?

The filter is the same, the o-ring is not. At least that is what I recall from helping a friend work on his GS1000 20 years ago.

My 1981 GS1000 and 1983 GSX1100ESD use the same filter and O ring.

Suzuki mad

If you can get your mitts on a HIFLOFILTRO HF133, it fits my '78 750, and both my '82 and '83 1100Es. It also comes with two different O-rings! :-D

The filter is the same but the o-ring is different because the filter covers are different. You can tell if you look at the parts schematics closely. The '78 has 3 studs that hold the filter cover on and the o-ring has 3 squiggles (sorry for using technical terms) in the O. The '83 uses 5 studs on the cover so the o-ring has 5 squiggles in it and the o-ring itself is slightly thicker.

Like mcycle-nut said, some filters come with both o-rings. I have 3 spare that fit your '83. Let me know if you need them and I'll throw them in the mail.

You guys all rock. Thanks for the tips. Kevin, I'll look for that filter. Right now I have a pile of filters for my 1k bikes but no o-rings. Paul, I'll take you up on your kind offer. PM sent with address.

Thanks again everyone. There is no other place like the GSR!

:D

Thanks Kevin.
If you have Advance Auto Parts in your area they carry Fram bike filters. The Advance close to my house didn't carry mine but they were happy to order them so I picked up half a dozen. They come with the o-rings. Between what I've found on the shelves and what they ordered I have enough to last about 40,000 miles on hand.

They don't carry anything motorcycle. I have Paparo for local pickup and if I am going to order it then I just use BB.

Hmm, Down here they have them on the shelf. I wonder what's up with that?

They would gladly order it in for me but they do not stock any motorcycle related items.

Around here we have a lot of bike dealerships that will get you bike parts but like I said I also have Joe who has all that stuff in stock and just gives it to me. I got an inspection last night and it and the sticker cost me nada ;)

He has my 1000 in limbo remember? So the perks just pour in

Nice benefits.

He has to give me something so I don't draw and quarter him, wrap him in small packages and put him in my chest freezer you know?

It pays off for tires too. I get tires at his wholesale cost (no mark up) and then free mounting and balancing. Other assorted bike parts for free too. He really is a nice guy but just has way more work than he can handle.
