I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I need to change to oil on my 82 GS1100G. I have the oil (Rotela) and the filter with new gasket, but when took off the first nut noticed that the threads are stripped on the stud. So I put it back on, just tight enough that it will stay for now. I have tried looking up in my Clymer manual if these are a removable stud or not but cannot find anything about it. This is also where I am leaking from. I would like to fix this issue. Has anyone else ran into this?

Yep. You may need to grab them with a pair of Vice-grips to unscrew them.

You can order up new OEM, or find 6mm studs the same or longer length at a real* auto parts store or real** hardware store with metric stuff.

Some hardware stores don't stock automotive studs, but they do have 6mm all-thread you can cut to length if you like.

If you just want to get on the road for the moment, install 6mm screws and order up some studs to replace with the next oil change. Do NOT use screws as a permanent solution, though -- they'll get looser and looser and finally strip out the aluminum after a few oil changes.

* NOT Autozone, Advance Auto, etc. You need a Napa, Carquest or the grubby independent all the pros use. Look for a grumpy gray-bearded gent behind a scarred counter. Explain to him you need some 6mm studs like those used for some water pumps, and hand him your sample. Tell him longer is OK, and you need some nuts, too.

** NOT Meanards, bLowes, or Home Despot.

do a search and you will find many threads on this issue. You will receive good advice that will cover several different issues. BTW, I purchased new studs at the local Suzuki dealer for a very reasonable price and they were in stock.

I had a stud missing on the sending unit which on top of the oil filter cover, I just got a longer metric hex head, cleaned out the entrance way with thinner and a q-tip, applied blue thread locker, cranked it down, measured the length and cut off the head, cleaned up the edge with a file, called it done. :p Might work on the oil filter cover.

That works quite well, unless it's a bolt that you will be removing from time to time, like the oil filter cover.

For something that will be inserted and kept there, it's great.

Use two nuts. Put them on the same stud and spin them against each other. Hold one with a socket, rotate the other with a wrench. The studs will come right out.

I had to do this recently.

Well got it done. Had to remove the exhaust to get the clearance I needed but hey at least I don't leak oil from there anymore. Also found that the o-ring for the oil cap was bad an I was apparently leaking from there, minutely, whenever I rode. Good oil, good o-ring on the cap, new exhaust gaskets, new oil filter and seal for the cover, and done. Now the rain just has to stop, I don't mind ridding in it but its not that pleasurable.

Had to drill out and retap an oil stud on my 750. Now That sucked royally, felt like I was performing surgery and had to move incredibly slow and try not to slip the slightest bit.
