    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil filter cover studs.....

Well after my first oil change on my new to me 650, I found 2 of the 3 studs are showing real signs of wear. Near stripped. I know scary eh? So Im asking what kinda crap-fest am I looking at to replace?
Are these pressed on or threaded studs? If threaded has anyone ever replaced theirs and how much force are we talking to remove? Im just asking cause this could very well be the bike I ride for a long time until my custom is done. Hell I may even do a little updating and modding to it. Im kinda digging the Cafe' look. :oops:

Oh the bike in question is the one in my sig.
 
Threaded and who knows how hard to get out. Put a set of vice grips on them and work them back and forth tapping with a hammer on the stud. That would be my first try anyway.
 
They are threaded studs & will come right out. You can either replace them with new studs or use 6 x 1.0 mm bolts. Ray.

Really cause oil cover studs produced 48 and none covered what I asked. I even scrolled through several pages of the Tech section before asking. Care to list the search parameters you used. I much prefer reading than getting a "Search the archives!!!" post.

When you do a search it helps to click the "Title Only" button. I just did that searching for "stud" and found several appropriate threads right off the bat.

Excellent. I thought that would limit my search too much. On many of the other forums I use, thats the way it works. Good info to know.

Yeah, a lot of times, you'll have to sift through the various posts but usually there's so many that you can take a look at the titles and fairly quickly find some that are appropriate.

One thing is for sure....the search feature doesn't work as well on this site as it does on some others. It's too bad you can't 'ask' it to include only posts that have all multiple words.
