I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

my 81 750 e has the 5 nut oil filter cover. one of the top studs stripped, so the nut cant tighten. Can these be taken out and replaced, or is there any way to fix this?

Part #10. Still available from Suzuki, around 2 bucks each.

I replaced all of mine with a 60 cent stainless allen head bolt from the local hardware store. Installed with a lot of anti sieze and lock washer.

So, can you like, walk into any TRUE VALUE or whatever and find metric-threaded Stainless nuts and bolts of the right length for what you wanna do anytime you want? Really? Wow.

True Value DOES have a great selection of metric stuff.... much more than Home Depot or Lowes

good so its not casted into the block its just threaded in? Thank goodness i thought i was really screwed.

I'd rather replace a stripped stud or nut than try to tap or helicoil that engine.

I have a related question. Had a dribble of a leak out of my oil filter cover. Removed it, adjusted/wiped clean the gasket and put it back on. Don't know if I had one of the cap-nuts misaligned but one of them won't tighten now, on inspection, it looks like the threads inside the nut are stripped. Tried another nut on that bolt and I 'think' its okay.

My question is, sounds like its recommended to get away from the cap-nuts onto the engine bolts and go with hex-head metric bolts. Does this mean I can use a pliers or something and just unscrew the bolts that these cap-nuts go onto and replace with 6mm (I think) metric hex bolts (stainless of course!)?

That would be better in my opinion. Just wanted to double check? Also a suggested length?

Thanks again! Its been 70 degrees here and I am just beside myself with the desire to ride....

yes the studs should come right out with a pliers. Key word being should. I would actual put two nuts on it a lock em together and back it out that way. Just in case the stud won't back out you won't be stuck with a messed up stud.

which way to turn...

which way to turn...

One is definately knackered...think the cap nut was stripped when I tried to put it on, messed up the threads as to not be able to get a regular 6mm nut on it.

Which way to do the posts turn? Are the 'normal' and I'd turn to the left to get them out?

*sigh* yet another set back in the ride....dangit.....

Excellent advice!:)

i would stick with the studs. that way if you strip one all you got to do is replace the stud. if you strip the threads on the motor your in for a long fix.

success (I think)

success (I think)

Well I've managed to remove the 2 studs with the bad threads. Temporarily replaced them with some 6mm stainless hex-heads I had on hand. Think I'll have to order some new ones as can't find them locally at h/w stores. Will venture out tomorrow to see if the oil stays in...

thanks for the help!
