If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Our local Autozone has some motorcycle filters under the STP nametag. Does anyone know the number for the filter that will fit an 83 gs1100gk? I am trying to get a better parts supply than the $8-plus-wait-2-months-thailand-made filters from EMGO that i can only get now....Any help?

I just bought one at the autozone here for my GS1100Gk I can't remember the whole number but the last two are the 00 I think the first #'s are all the same so I hope this helps. Also if you look in the back of their fram filter book it has the motorcycle listings.

Unfortunately the 'zones around here figure most people can't read: There are no books at all, except one for cars

I'll get the whole number when I get home tonight and post it in the AM. I only have internet access at work right now.

Tim, the GS1100GK takes the same exact oil filter the GS850G, GS1000G, and GS1100G takes. I'm sure there are other GS bikes, (perhaps the GS750 and other chain-gang GS's) that are fitted with the same. The Fram filter is CH6000. A CH6001 will also fit, although the o-ring is not the same.

I get my Fram filters on eBay, quite reasonably priced.

Nick

Ok thanx Nick, I will go there and see what they got now. Where on ebay do you find these? I type in "GS1100" in the search but never see them there...

Try typing in "oil filters" I use the Fram also CH6000 I get them for
$ 6-7 from local cycle supply I figure anything I save on ebay I loose on shipping. Always available locally :D You may even be able to find them at your local WalMart

Type in "Suzuki oil".

The reason I get my filters on eBay is that they aren't available anywhere else around these parts. PepBoys used to carry Purolator motorcycle oil filters, but they've stopped stocking them. So, I bid the minimum and see if I can get away with a cheap sale.

As Lynn says, the shipping costs bring up the final price, but to me it's obviously worth it. Plus, I get it shipped to my front door.

Nick

By the way, Tim, my eBay userid is "gssuzukiguy". Please don't bid on the filters I'm bidding on right now!

Nick

Tim, the number for the STP filters that Autozone carries is SMO-00 and they run about 3 or 4 bucks and you don't have to wait for them to be shipped to you. Whole lot easier then trying to win the bid on ebay too.

I wish I had an AutoZone close to me. Thanks for the info about STP filters.

Nick

The Autozone STP filters fit fine and the O-ring came in the box, but I always check to make sure. I got one without, and when I told the manager, he replaced it and gave me another one for free! Got my business big time!!

oil filters

For those of you who have a NAPA Auto Parts store near you, NAPA has a filter to fit our Suzukis. In looking for sources of oil filters (so far I've used eBay and J.C. Whitney (EMGO)), I stopped by my local NAPA store. They checked their listing, and have the filter available - not stocked at my store, but available from their warehouse on a day's notice. I did ask the price, too, but don't recall positively, :? around $6, I think.

Great! Thanx so much for all the info, and no, Nick, I won't 'shaft' your bid on EBAY!!, the filter link about the fram was right -on. If you think the motorcycle filter is bad, cut open one of their automobile filters....A common cause of 'start-up rattle' on the first start of the day due to that anti-drain back valve poorly made allowing dirty oil a first-run back into the oil galley...anyway, I will check there at the 'Zone and see. as for NAPA, the ones around here (remember where I live...) When I asked for a filter for my GS, I got that inbred dog look from them and after searching for what seemed like 25 minutes of my 30 minute lunch, all I got was a "we don't stock anything for that kind of vehicle".....But, Suzi needs a filter, and a filter she will get!!!

Oil Filters

Interesting thing about Fram oil filters - I've read some of these analyses before. :( :? I've been a "Consumer Reports" subscriber for a long time now. The last time they tested car oil filters (admittedly, it's been several years ago, and things can change over time), Frams clearly did a better job than any of the other filters tested 8O . AC's (in GM products only) were almost as good; everyone else trailed far behind. The test was conducted as a full matrix; GM, Ford, Chrysler, and some imported cars; each filter brand's model for each car; they actually measured the amount of dirt trapped. I've almost exclusively used Fram filters ever since, without any problems, and I've always owned at least 3 cars/trucks at any given time.

Go to Wally-world, get a supertech for $1.97, get a fram, and cut each one open. tell me the better quality one after that.
