    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil Leak from Shifter

Hey all, I had a minor leak coming out of the clutch housing where the shifter enters that has now become a waterfall. Before I take it apart do you know what is causing it? Is there a part or seal I can get beforehand to knock this problem out quicker?
 
Likely to be oil seal! see pic part #29; should be available at local dealer

Makes sense! Do I have to drain the oil to get to that part?
 
Wait, that is a stupid question. If it's a oil seal obviously I do.
 
does the case have to be split? or motor removed? i just got mine goin and noticed mine is leakin in the same spot. its flingin oil on my chain and all over the left side of my tire
 
No, no. First, that is the sprocket cover, not the clutch cover. Second, you can do it on the bike.
Remove shifter, footpeg and sprocket cover. This will expose the seal where the shifter shaft enters the cases.
Remove the circlip and washer. Now you can see the seal itself. To remove the seal, insert a couple of small screws. Now grab the screws with pairs of pliers and pull like heck. It should come out without any issues. (Sometimes there is a metal lip that the screws will hit and force the seal out, but I can't tell on this engine.)
To insert the new seal, put the new seal on the shifter shaft and the old seal outside of it. Tap on the old seal, keeping the new seal lined up correctly. You don't want to install the old seal crooked, it will still leak. And you really don't want to hit the new seal itself if you can help it.
And you don't need to drain the oil.
