About a month and half ago I had changed the oil to Rotella 5w40 synthetic. Before this I had read the many discussion on using synth oil, some positive, some not so positive. One of the negative comments was the appearance of oil leaks after switching to synth oil. After switching to synth I did notice that the clutch chatter was reduced some, not completely but it was better and no noticeable leaks (additional leaks) until now.
When I did this I did already have a slight valve cover leak. Now a month and half later the valve covers are leaking a whole lot more than before. I have it scheduled to go in for new valve cover gaskets, and valve adjustment at the same time. Here are my questions:
a) Do you think that the valve cover leak becoming worse is due to the change to synth oil, or just because it was bound to get worse as time went on?
b) When the new valve cover gasket is installed do you think I should switch back to regular oil or should the new gasket take care of the problem?
Let me know what you experienced GSR?s think about this.
Thanks,
Steve
