    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

im assuming the cover on the left side of the motor near the shifter is the transmission cover or crank case cover?? :-k
anyway its dripping oil.... is it safe to pull it and use a sealent or am i gona have to buy a gasket?

If it's an 81 850G, you should be able to pull the outer cover right behind the shifter. It's a dry cover. Something under it is leaking.
 
Not sure about yours, but my 78 GS1000E has 2 different covers on that side. The one is in front of the shifter & houses the coil/magneto assembly & is bathed by oin from the pan. There is a paper gasket that seals the surface between the cover & the crankcase. The second one is aft of the shifter, but the shifter actually passes through it. There is a seal behind it that seals around the output shaft for the front sprocket. Hope this helps you some. You can also try looking at www.bikebandit.com for the microfich for your bike.
 
mine is from the front cover... also has a small leak from the top head gasket. but i think thats a seperate issue.
 
When you say the top head gasket, are you refering to the valve cover gasket, or a different one? If you are refering to the valve cover gasket, get a new one from www.realgaskets.com. They sell a silicone gasket that can be reused over & over, instead of buying a new paper gasket every time you adjust the valves, or have the cover off for any other reason. I replaced mine with an OEM gasket before I found out about real gaskets, & had to take the valve cover off to do some other work just a few thousand miles later, & the gasket had already became hard & brittle to the point of falling apart when I removed the cover. The new one from Suzuki is about $20.00. The silicone gasket sells for about $25-$30 & is well worth the cost. As far as the front cover leak, it is a paper gasket that seals the cover to the crank case. I would not risk using the gasket sealant. The gasket itself is only a few dollars, if I remember correctly from bike bandit.

no problem. Hope you get your leaks fixed. I recently had to replace all of my gaskets, as the bike had been sitting for quite some time from the PO. It looked like I was riding an old Harley.
 
Theres also a drain under that cover that comes from the top of the tranny. If say your timing tensioner leaks, it will drain through the starter cover and through the left side cover.
 
turns out its my crank case cover gasket , and my head gasket!
ill probly end up just doing a full rebuild once winter comes.

by the way .. nice trike!! id love to build one of those someday.
