DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil Leaking From Oil Pan (GS450)

One of the first things I noticed and was advised to me when I picked up my used GS450 was that the oil pan gasket was going and would leak a bit when the engine was warmed up. Verified this when I first took her for a spin and smoke was pouring out from the exhaust where the oil was burning on the pipes.

I ordered a gasket and am looking to replace it but I'd like to know the process of doing so. Also, I was planning on tearing the bike apart and cleaning everything up. Anyone familiar?

you will need to drop the exhaust off, then drain out the oil.remove all the bolts holding the sump on and give it a thorough clean out, including the strainer.
clean off the gasket surfaces SPOTLESS before refitting the sump with new gasket and torque up the bolts.
change the oil filter while you are at it. refit the exhaust (again, new gaskets) and refill engine with oil.

You won't have to take the exhaust off on the 450, I did mine a while back. Its just a whole lot easier to clean everything underneath if you do!

I got tired of the gasket leaking. I tried something called "gasket eliminator". We use it on air compressor flanges that have to contain 125 psi, 180F oil and it works great. My oil pan benefitted from modern chemistry too.

When you drop your sump (oil pan) there will still be oil in it, so have something under there to catch it. It is a messy job, but necessary.
