    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil out of the airbox

Got the bike going and its idling great, reving up fine etc but its dripping oil out of the overflow box (atleast thats where i believe its coming out). I think i might have to much oil in the bike would that of caused it. I need to do an oil change before i take it out anyway but not sure whats going on. The previous owner had a tad over 4 quarts in it he said and I thought it was only 3.5?

Put bike on kickstand- wait a minute till oil settles, then straighten bike up and observe oil rising in window- should be not much above top of window. When you say "overflow" do you mean the little drain nipple at bottom of air filter box?
 
Ya, its also dripping on the header somewhere as well. It also idles fine but wont go in gear, it just dies off.
 
Hi,

Yes, check the oil level with the bike on the center stand. Look near the brake pedal. There will be a round sight glass on the clutch cover. It will have an "F" and an "L" marked on it for "Full" and "Low". Your bike will take a little less than 4 quarts to fill it. See the oil change tutorial on my website for all the details. Make sure that your oil is not overfull because gas is leaking into the crankcase from a leaky petcock or faulty float valves and seats in the carbs.

Hi,

Dripping on the header may mean that you need to replace the tach cable seals in the head. It's an easy job. Mr. Bwringer has the tutorial on his website... http://www.bwringer.com/gs

Well i found the culprit, pictured below it just kinda spits it out a tad, nothing ungodly excessive just out of that corner right there. Checked the oil level in the window and its way past full. My hope is is its spitting out the excess oil and the gasket isnt shot. All the bolts are tight so its not from that.

I'm having the same issue with the bike idling fine, but dies off when I try to go into gear. I'll have to admit I'm a little befuddled.

As long as you're replacing the valve cover gasket, have you adjusted the valves?

Ill have to order a valve cover gasket and adjust the valves while im in there. Get an oil change done to and see if that fixes it up. Just got done detail cleaning the engine up so the bike should be happy with me after this lol.

Get a new cam cover gasket and check valves while you're at it- better to find out where things stand. What do you mean "won't go into gear"- a good idle would be about 1100 rpm, pull in clutch and drop in first gear- might clunk but shouldn't die.
 
It started going through gears now. When you put it in gear and rev it up to go it goes up to about 2500 and dies off, will idle fine at about 1200. No its not from me using the clutch just to get that out of the way.
