    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil poring out of breather tube in air box

Suzuki 1982 GSX 1100 EZ

I have just fitted a new valve cover gasket and a breather cover gasket (genuine Suzuki parts) and now have oil poring out from the breather tube at the bottom of the air box. Is it that i may have the gasket on the wrong way ?. The steel wooly/thing pad i think suzuki calls it an oil seperator i only have one which fits in the left hand side of the valve cover. Is that correct or should i have 2 of these wool pads one for each side. The parts manual only shows one pad on the left side. The Haynes manual shows two pads. Any help appreciated

as stated in the original gasket thread you posted, oil pouring out from that breather cover points to a very poorly engine.

are you sure you have not over filled it with oil?
 
oil level seems fine. haven't done a compression test but the engine runs real sweet and pulls real hard.
 
remove the oil filler cap and start the engine, see if oil blows out the hole or you can hear "blowing" from inside the engine.
 
am at work at the moment but will try when i get home. What will that tell me?
 
The weird thing is that the bike never leaked through that breather tube before the gasket change. Can you tell me wether it's one or two stell pads that go on top of the valve cover?
 
There should be two of those mesh pads.

You shouldn't see oil pouring out of the airbox. You might want to run the engine with the breather line disconnected and dumping into a catch can of some sort to see how much fluid is spewing out of the breather. It should only be minimal.

Sometimes when the petcock and or float needles leak you will get gas in the oil, and subsequently it will want to get out. If the oil level is fine this shouldn't be the case though.
 
Richard, recheck your oil level again. It should be on the middle line of the case eye, when the bike is on the main stand. Level ground and a cold engine also help to get an accurate reading.

Some members overfill the engine by completely covering the sight glass. Excess oil then finds it's way out of the breather and other normally sealed orifices.

It may be possible to fit that gasket incorrectly, causing some of the vent holes to be blocked off/left open. See this schematic. The GSX looks to have only a centre mesh too.

It's all fixed. The problem was there's a largish hole in the gasket which has to go on the right hand side (as you sit on bike) of the valve cover. This is the side that has the steel filter pad. The other side doesn't have a pad so if the hole in the gasket is on the left side of the valve cover the oil goes on thru and down the breather tube. Thanks for the replies and previous posts which put me on the right track.

that is not correct, yes the oil filter pad does go on the r/h side but the hole on the gasket should be fitted to the left hand side.
but its a temporary fix that stops the oil coming out so stick with it.
 
always a good place to start by asking yourself "what has changed?" , the gasket, and you answered your own question
