    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil pressure sensor lead trouble

1981 GS750E.

I could not remove the lead from the sensor during an oil change today. I expected that I could. The thing won't let a phillips head grab and the nut is worn enough that my wrenches wouldn't fit.

I looked in the parts fiche and it doesn't show the lead separate from the sensor. Is that correct? I remember being able to remove the cover from the bike so that I could clean it off better. What I don't remember doing is taking off the entire sensor.

Any thoughts on removing a stuck lead?
Can an impact be used on that screw? A pair of needle nose pliers? If I have to replace it, would that mean the entire part? Would it mean draining all the oil?

Does anyone have a parts fiche that shows the thing apart?

The entire plate comes off with two screws. No need to drain the oil.
 
why do you need to remove it just for an oil change? is it on the top of the crank cases as on the gs1000?

It's under a cover on the front of the oil filter cover on the 16V motors.

ahhh, sorry mate wasnt sure. on my gs1000 its just on a small plate on top the cases, under the carbs.
is there enough slack on the wire to cut it off at the switch so you can remove it from the bike? then you can have a better chance on your work bench to remove the screw. then fit a new connector to the wire
 
I would use a good ser of pliers or vice grips to get it off, then replace it with a new screw. Mine is kinda messed up as well, but I get by.... Hard place to get to as well especially if you have an aftermarket header
