    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil Seal Kit for a '78 GS1000?

I think you just have to make a list, check it thrice, and order from your favorite Suzuki parts supplier. It's a pain in the rear, since the stuff you need is scattered over three or four blurry fiche pages.

The Athena gasket set shown comes with all the top-end stuff (other than no intake o-rings, no tach cable seals, and no tensioner seals, for some reason), but only the case cover gaskets for the bottom end. You don't even get an oil filter cover o-ring.

Also, I wasn't very impressed with my encounter with Athena stuff -- they worked, but Vesrah gasket sets are much better quality.
 
Bruce, in 20 plus years of working on these 2V 1000"s, I have never heard of anyone selling seal kits. I always just bought them from Suzuki "as needed"....Being a former drag racer requiring 3 or more tear downs in a year, I never replaced them unless they were leaking. When you torque the case halves together, the cases will "pinch" the edges of the seal, right at the parting surface.....What I would do is "rotate" the seals on every re-installation. The little spot where they were "pinched", I would apply a very small dab of Yamabond on it for a sure seal.....If you look at your old seals you will see the "pinched" areas I am speaking of.....I guess the trick to getting a good seal is the actual installation. Making sure that every one is perpindicular to the cases. I think you will find the seals are a little "pricey" especially the R side crank seal.....Lets see, there are only 4 seals in the bottom end that need attention...Countershaft seal, shift shaft seal, round plug at the end of the input shaft (left side) and the R crankshaft seal....There are 2 tear drop shaped "o" rings between the cyl block and the upper case half, but they come with the gasket sets. As far as the top end, there are just the 1/2 moon seals at the valve cover and the two pieces at the tach drive...They do not come with the gasket sets....Good luck with your motor build. Good time to have the tranny gears under cut......BadBillyB

Does the Vesrah kit come more complete? There is also those gaskets for the gizmos behind the clutch... those half-moon clip thingys you have to take off to split the cases. And what about the shift shaft? Is that considered an oil seal, or is it in the gasket kit?

OK, after a nice hot shower, I remembered some things I forgot to mention.....The oil pressure switch cover "o" ring seal, the valve stem seals, the rectangular "o" ring seal between the head and block, the "O" rings around the bottom of the sleeves and 2 gaskets (for the gizmos behind the clutch) come with the complete gasket set from Vesrah, which is my brand of choice....Shift shaft seal is not included....sorry I type (2 finger pecking) so slow....BadBillyB
