    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Need to change my oil and filter manual says 10w40 mc oil but have seen on this site i can use 15w40 rotella which is better to use
 
Either one will be fine. Rotella-t Synthetic is what I run, it's allot cheaper than straight synthetic motorcycle oil. Also rotella make synthetic 10w-40, 5w-40 and 15w-40... I run the 5w-40 in the winter months, 10w-40 in the spring and fall months and the hot stints I run 15w-40 in my Bandit, all synthetic.

15w40 Rotella is fine in hotter weather. You, being in Canada, should use a 10w40 oil for the lower viscosity rating, it's getting cold up here in these northern parts. Rotella would still be a good choice, don't use CE (energy conserving) rated oil though.
 
MC oil is over-priced hype....your bike doesn't want it.

Your bike wants high Zinc oil,(Diesel Oil)
The zinc is necessary for good Valve health and critical for your clutch.

Your bike has a wet-clutch system...so using 90% of Regular Automotive oil will likely cause Slippage problems, due to all of the friction modifiers in Car oil today.

Stay away from ANYTHING stamped with "Energy Conservative" or Similar markings.

Personally I run Supertech Farm+Fleet in my bikes...it's not exactly JASO rated, but it is a cheap diesel oil.
 
I use Rotella in my 1327 motor that was put together in 1991. I just took it apart to check things as I beat the snot out of it all summer at the track. everything looks perfect. No scoring or wear.And this in an engine that was dyno'ed at 180 hp... The engine was built by a true expert which helps. But I think the oil helped too. You can buy it a Menards in my area...

I have 15w40 in mine right now and it is harder starting, turns over slow.
9 months out of the year I have to put tape over my oil cooler:rolleyes:
I buy 10w40 castrol Motorcycle oil from Canadian Tire, cheaper than the bike shops. Thats what is going in my bike next.

Are using regular Rotella or synthetic?
 
Mr.bulluchi.your reality report/info re:engine teardown exam is good to hear about,thanks on that.Might you have any engine run time hrs. or est. mileage numbers to share also?i
