    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

One last desperate plea for help before i send my new dyna s back.

I have 12,4 at the battery
The coils are a set of newer accel 3ohms i borrowed, tested them to 3.5 each and about 13,5 so all good, the wires are brand new dyna.

So plus side on the coils (orange white wire from the kill switch) is a healthy 12.2 (the same orange white wires is hooked to the red dyna wires, switched possitive)
At the minus side, black and white wire, i have 12.2 too, if i disconnect the white and black and just check between ground and them i have 6v from one and 4 from the other, if i rotate it by hand it drops to 0 once each revolution, still 12.2 on the actul coil.

That seems very strange, they should read very low and then go up to full 12v once each revolution and that would
be when it spark right?
If the modules are messed up they'd be totally dead you'd think and not work "backwards".. i have looked high and low and either i am super dumb or no one has had this problem.. Am i missing something obvious, can a weird short or ground issue
be behind it?

If something is unclear just ask and ill straighten it out, it ran fine, then my dyna died one my way home one day, wired in the new one and it never worked
at all. Dyna says the new one was tested.. I really dont want to wait for more than a week just for them to get it, then another week before testing etc..
So i hope it is something easy (it wont be). :concern:

Why the newer coils? Are you sure the Dyna is the problem? I'm running a Dyna on stock coils and haven't touched it in at least a decade. You aren't super dumb. Just try troubleshooting without assuming where the fault is. Get Dyna to help you with this, on the phone if possible. Review your connections and make sure they are wired correctly and solidly. A lot of times, troublesome electrical gremlins are found in areas you are assuming are all good.
 
Old coils, long story, but the resistance where of, have reinstalled them too with not luck.
did talk to dyna, they don't know either, its the 6v from one module and 4v from one constantly that worries me.
me and makes me think the dyna is to blame.. Then again when they go bad, like my old one (dyna tested and confirmed) they do nothing, not signal no nothing
here i got a drop every time the magnet passes the module..
I've re soldered and rewired a lot already but will do more today to make sure there is nothing wonky going on.
The thing is the bike was working great before then one module died on my old dyna, i installed this one and no no spark, makes me think its the problem.
 
Just a thought but you are not using your OEM magnet anymore; you stuck the Dyna magnet on the mechanical timing advance. Wish you had put your bike year/model in the post or better in your signature. Surprised none of the forum long-timers haven't remarked as I was reminded to do this when I made the same boo-boo a couple months ago. In any case, the Dyna magnet (the black thing in the middle of the advance unit that fits into the two arms that swing out when you increase rpms, providing advance). is hard to see. It is a little indentation as they paint over the whole thing and it is hard to see. When you have the engine at TDC for 1/4, the magnet needs to be at about 8 or 9 oclock. If you are getting no spark, check the magnet's position or just pull it off and flip the magnet to the other side of the thing and try again.

FYI, my bike was originally equipped with an IC igniter ignition and a Dyna S was installed. There is no F mark on the mechanical advance so I used a cut off wheel on a dremel to make a small slot 180 degrees across from the 1/4 F and another mark at the 4500 rpm mark to its right. I used a little black paint (paint pen) on the marks to make them easier to see and when it dried took a little steel wool over the paint to leave just the paint in the slots. MUCH easier to time for 2/3 side.
 
Yeah, i actually tested with the old magnet from my old dyna system, i dont have the original points cam anymore.
It is a 1978 gs 1000, everything WAS working great/./. never had this problem before.
 
Turned out both the dyna modules where toast as I suspected but was talked into checking everything again..Finally got my replacement dyna s and it runs like a charm again. One positive thing I guess is that I redid everything even remotely fishy looking in the wiring. However since 90% of the harness now is custom after my own ideas I will most likely be a dreaded PO

Maybe we need a new section for "dreaded PO's" ! I have lots of emergency bypass wiring on my bike- sometimes I can't remember why/what/where and worry that next guy will curse at me.

Glad to hear you have it running again.

As long as you create a durable wiring diagram, you won't be THAT dreaded PO, but someone held in high regard for his attention to detail.
 
I have a good friend with a Kaw Z1 with a turbo. The bike has been TOTALLY wired with a fabbed up wiring harness done by the PO and ALL the wire is WHITE. That was NOT an act of kindness.
