    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a late '70's Yamaha (there, I said the bad word!) Chappy 50cc bike/scooter/thing that I picked up cheap for my wife to scoot around on.
It is missing the oiltank/injector pump and previous owner was just running mix gas.
What would the approximate oil/fuel ratio probably be ?
I asked at Yamaha board and got 20 - 1 as an answer, which sounds too light but COULD be right.
I've worked on a million Gs's and i love 'em, but I just thought I would throw this out for an educated guess.

Modern oil you can go less...
Used 32:1 on the KDX250 a while ago, no worries.
 
I have a '79 Yamaha QT50 that I run pre-mix in. 50:1 ratio. Runs great.
 
Depends on the type of oil to some extent; old school oils run a higher % vs. newer type synthetic oils.
 
Ok, just to be a wiseguy I'll suggest you split the difference between the 50-to-1 and 32-to-1!

What ratio did the PO use and for how long? That'll probably be as good a guide as any other opinionated info you receive ... maybe better if he did it for a long time without ill effect.

I'd run 20:1 synthetic "2 cycle" in your "old" motor and if the plugs don't foul and you don't constantly get the ugly blue smoke you/re in business. You can always back it down after the first tank to less oil if need be. Admittedly 32:1 is easy to remember as 1oz oil per quart of gas.

I would like to add that you make sure and use only two stroke oil formulated for a air cooled engine.

air cooled engines typicly run hotter and oil made for a water cooled engine can gum up and the engine sieze.
I have seen it happen on a vintage air cooled RM250 that was running the same gas mix others were using in their water cooled YZ250's tear down after siezure found alot of tar like gunk.

I KNEW you guys were going to come through as this board has in the past with really solid and useful info!

The Previous Owner was a woman who dumped lawnmower oil into the gas until it "Looked right!) You should have seen the plug and carb.... nasty. had to take muffler/pipe off and heat them up and burn all the crap that was built-up in there out, also.
And somehow - It ran. I think that they are obviously pretty tough and simple machines.
Got some new stuff from Bike Bandit today to fix petcock so I should be getting it in shape pretty quickly.
Then I can go back to wrenching old GS!
