A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

The views expressed in this forum are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of "The GSResources" or the editors.

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Has anybody dealt with this company ?????
I should have quizzed you first , but have just ordered a starter motor for my 'S from them .
Again , their price , plus freight , blows any Aussie suppliers out of the water .

Cheers , Simon .

I think their prices are so low because they take your money and never send any parts.

I got screwed by them about 7 years ago and have never used them again. I do believe I remember seeing a few people complain about them.

There have been reviews on both sides of the fence, but I thing the negatives FAR outnumber the positives.

Hope it works out for you, Simon. :o

.

Simon, try Mick Hone down in Vic... last lot of parts I got ended up cheaper and weeks faster than getting them from the US.

They also have online parts fiche and online ordering now :)

Oh dear .
Just as I hit the "buy" button , I thought , maybe I should check them out .......

Fingers , and everything else , crossed .
I won't know for a coupla weeks I suppose .

I take a bit of heart from those that didn't have trouble .

Thanks all .

Pete , Mick Hones price was $1021 plus postage . Alphasports was $561(US) and the Old Bike Barn was $176(US) . I know Alphasports will deliver , so we'll see if being a tight arse bites me in the arse .

Cheers , Simon .

Ouch! Ok so that wouldn't have helped much... Boulevard are typically much cheaper than Alpha Sports, but locally you can also always try findapart.com.au if you don't mind a second hand one...

Pete , I thought about a second hand one but , I figured I've already got a 34 year old one now . I don't need another .
See what happens . I've got a couple of E-mails from them so, at this stage I still live in hope .
I'll give them the benefit of doubt (for a couple of weeks yet anyway) .

As a little aside , it was interesting to find out that the starter motor is the same for lots of GS's , from 1100's down to aboot 400's .

Cheers , Simon .

Simon, the reason the OBB was so much less was that's it's an after market unit made by Ricks, assume the others were quoting OEM units.

Good luck.

If you are buying from a business in the USA or Canada, the Better Business Bureau can give some hints on issues with a company.
http://www.bbb.org/

If you don't find an entry for a business, it's likely they are too new, or not a real business (just an individual selling under a pseudo company name).

Here's the entry for http://www.bbb.org/upstate-new-york...rts/old-bike-barn-in-plattsburgh-ny-194627609

Looks like they are not registered with BBB, and have a couple of complaints not resolved, but no new information here, as we already know they have had some issues with their service.
http://www.bbb.org/upstate-new-york...ts/old-bike-barn-in-plattsburgh-ny-194627609/#

There is a local Suzuki dealer here that I deal with who has a poor rating with online reviews, but they are always busy and I've had no issues dealing with them myself.
Some people are quick to jump online as their first place to get the issue resolved and rant about the "poor service" rather than deal with it themselves.
It's a family run business and the owner doesn't waste his time responding to complaints or complainers, sometimes he will just tell them to go somewhere else if they don't like his service or way he runs his business.
Not saying that Old Bike Barn is the same, but that's the way some people deal with things.

Simon, I think you're OK dealing with this company, as they are clearly a real business and not some fly by night internet operation.

The BBB only shows the last few years of information when rating a business. Much related to OBB has dropped. Going back a few years, the Better Business Bureau took OBB to court as they were using a BBB recommended business logo on their web site when they were not a BBB member. OBB also has two locations - one in the USA, one in Canada.

Thanks fella's .
I've had a few e-mails from them and the starter is supposedly on the way .
Fingers crossed .

Cheers , Simon .

I bought starter clutch parts for my Seca Turbo off them a few years ago. I had no problems.

The starter motor turned up yesterday .
3 weeks from the other side of the world is not to bad , me thinks .
It is an aftermarket jobbie Kiwi but should do the job .
Now all I need is the time to put it in .
Jeeze work is a bloody nuisance .

Cheers , Simon .

Glad to hear it arrived Simon, and yeah work gets in the way of so many fun things!

Congratulations on getting the part in. I'll also add my voice that work gets in the way of the real fun

Yeh Pete and Cowboy .
I reckon I'd make a deadly millionaire .
The minor technical problem of getting the millions is doing my head in .

Cheers , Simon .
