DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Old GS1100GK air filter crumbled away! What the best one to get?

I recently bought an '82 GS1100GK "project" bike. It's got a lot of miles & not much care in years. But, I didn't pay alot.

Anyway, I am in the middle of replacing the carb boot o-rings & cleaning up the carbs. I pulled the air filter & it just sort of crumbled in my fingers! It was probably broken & leaking when I got the bike, which wiould explain the leaness I felt while driving it home. Am replacing the boot O-rings to get rid of the vacuum leak which was causing an erratic idle, going up to about 3k rpm at times.

When I pulled the carbs, I found a lot of crud in the float bowls. So, I'll spend some time cleaning up inside the carbs too.

I'll pull the plugs off the pilot screws & open them up a bit from their original settings too.

Anywhay, I am going to need to get a new airfilter & would like advice on which to get or which to avoid. Sticking with the stock airbox (& exhaust), so I just want a good quality replacement (& price is important)

Thanks

I'd get the stock Suzuki filter, or a Uni foam element (which is almost identical but cheaper because it doesn't come with the cage).

As for the carbs, you are strongly advised to clean them properly, not a quicky job like you are mentioning. Carb rebuild tutorial linked in my signature.

Also, be sure to adjust the valves.

Good luck

You are right about the thorough cleaning & adjusting the valves while I have the bike this far apart.
Thanks
:)

Get a stock replacement K & N filter for it.
The Uni filters are only good on dirt bikes IMHO.
