A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'd say try replacing the simple and cheap part first... the vacuum line. Get something with the same interior diameter from your local auto parts store... :)

Hi, this inquiry is in reference to arveejay's 5-6-06 post, the tests for petcock vacuum. I am having issues similar to the ones that appear in this thread, so I'm performing some tests.

When I suck on the vacuum line, fuel pours freely out the other nipple. That seems good.

However, when I apply the other test arveejay mentions--that of sucking the vacuum hose to my tongue to see if it will 'stick'--well, no dice. It won't hold the suction.

So with these results, mixed though they are, can I conclude that I do indeed have petcock issues?

(I really am happy there's a 'search' feature in this forum! Thanks, guys!)

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Kevin

If the vacuum line won't hold a vacuum to your tongue or baster or whatever your using, there is a leak at the diaphram in the petcock. Eventually it will flow gas thru that hose and directly into cylinder number 2 or it will get to the point that it won't shut the gas off. Best bet is to bite the bullet and get a new petcock from www.bikebandit.com Original equipment is the only way to go in my opinion.

Thanks, arveejay, for your confirming input. I'll get an order in right away. Cheers!

For many GS petcocks, you can buy a rebuild kit, which includes a new diaphragm. But really, test the hose first (take it off the bike, plug up one end, suck on it and see if it leaks).

Sorry, Joel, I should have mentioned that I did test the hose. It's solid, no leaks. Thanks for directing me to do that before I dumped some money on a new petcock or a repair kit.

I've rebuilt three with no issues whatsoever. I got my kits through Cycle Re-Cycle.
