    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi everyone,

I went for my first ride of the year today (finally!) and decided to change my plugs after I got home. I've never been good at diagnosing my engine based upon the colour and condition of the plugs. To that end I've attached a pic for your viewing pleasure - please feel free to give me your diagnosis. They are in order, cylinders 1-4, left to right.

How many miles are on them?
The one on the left is different :) They look reasonable but cameras can make the colours false.
Overfuelling, intermittent spark from cracked ht lead or lazy cap............
 
Maybe 2500km. Taken with an iPhone, colours are pretty close to actual. I'm thinking the left one is running rich, but like I said, I've never been good at diagnosing this.
 
1- too rich 2- maybe a tich lean, 3 & 4 look great but it's hard to tell exactly from the pics. You've really got to look down the porcelain to see the colour aswell
 
What colour would a properly adjusted carb show, assuming all else is good?
 
Hi, this is the way I see them, 1 is to rich, by a mile, 2 is to lean, by a mile, 3 is also lean, 4 is the best by far, possibly ever so slightly lean.
 
The porcelain will be white with spaters of tan. Basically as long as you look at it an it shows some form of tan it's good to go. Another good way to tell with your CV carbs is how it's running. One of the members on here has a good CV carb tune tutorial in his signature, just don't remember who.
 
1 looks like oil
Check the vacuum line on #2 for leaks
3 & 4 are perfect
 
Used to be (and in some areas with decent fuel, still is) you looked for various shades of tan. Now, with the crap that masquerades as fuel, you look for different shades of grey.
