DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

That colour looks like a good match ! Nice work. I think I have to make a "paint decision"in the future, so I am watching this thread closely :)

~ Update ~

The digital camera was dead, but I'll tell you about phase 1 -

First, I wet-sanded all four sidecovers with 600x wet-or-dry, until all the clear coat was nice and dull.

I then washed them thoroughly, and let them dry all afternoon.

I put them out on rosin paper, and gave them all a light coat of primer, then an hour later gave them a good, careful coat.

So now I've got nice gray sidecovers.

Observation: The automotive primer is different than all the Rustoleum/Krylon/Do-it-Best brands - it has a much more wicked smell, and it is thicker. It actually filled in a couple of miniscule scratches.

I'll let them cure 24 hours, and hit them with the red tomorrow night.

I'll charge up the camera, and shoot pics tomorrow -

I'll sell them or trade them, or keep them for spares.

I don't know if I'd be doing anybody a favor by selling them, because there's no guarantee that the color match off of my rear tail section would match somebody else's '83 GS1100ED, is there ?

Do you need them ?

If so I won't decal them - I was going to do one set up in white letters, which is the factory colors, and I was going to do the other set in original style black lettering, which I'm thinking will look nice, since there's nothing white on the bike, but lots of black -

Pics will be coming -

I don't care if the color doesn't match or not. I just need the left side cover because mine is broken (velcro is holding it up).

Can't wait to see you finish this up though :).

~update~

The sidecovers looked really nice - right up until I held them up against the gas tank, which it turns out has been repainted.

So at some point, whoever owned this bike had the front fender, and gas tank repainted, put on black sidecovers, probably because they didn't match after the repaint job,and left the rear cowling the original color.

So what to do ?

Simple - I'll repaint the tank, rear cowling, and front fender also - why not ?:)
