I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Painted Carbs

WOW-again sick work Renobruce! I heard somewhere here-you should/cal boil your crabs after beadblasting /cleaning them. You can find alot of hidden oil that wil raise to the top? Is that a good idea? Sounds good to me. Will it hurt disassembled carbs in any way?
haha, sorry but i had to laugh when i saw that, a lot of people do boil crabs but ive never heard of any one bead blasting them!:D:clap::clap:

Thats really not a bad price considering the amount of time and care involved. Whats your average turn around time would you say?

Okay, now I'm intrigued. What would you do to dress up the 1150 carbs on my '86 since they're all black?

You could add some allen head bolts. Or maybe paint/polish the tops and bowls.

If the paint is still in good condition, try some S100 Engine Brightner on them along with the engine. It will shine up nice.

If you maintain your carbs, you shouldn't have to dip them. My 1150 carbs have never been dipped and still have the original black paint on them.

Absolutely. To me, it seems the biggest culprit to carbs is not riding the thing. I replaced a float once on this, but otherwise I don't touch the carbs. I just ride it everyday.

These carbs are gorgeous, Bruce.

Oh yes. I have the allen heads, but I meant what would you do to them if I sent them to you? They're currently stripped and dipped, waiting for some 122.5 mains so I can put them together with the new rubber and gaskets.

Would you be giving them a full glossy black treatment?

Since I take the rack apart to clean, mask, paint, etc., no need to put them back together. Just send all your parts and the carbs the way they are. I like to boil the parts in water to get all the residual oils off. Then prime and paint. I'll then re-assemble everything and do a bench synch on them.

I can paint them any way you want. If you are after the stock look, then yes, gloss black everywhere.

How much for that, btw?

I think stock gloss would be the way I'd go. Chrome or silver just seems like it'd look out of place, don't you think?

I think the 1150's look best with all black carbs. If I were to ever re-do mine, I'd add the stainless or chrome allen bolts.
Since you already have all the parts, it would be 190.00. That's 150.00 labor, 20.00 for the paint, and 20.00 for return postage.

I think you're probably right. Hmmmm. I think it might be worth it alone just so I don't have to continue trying to scrub all the damned paint off the carbs. How the hell do you do that, anyway?

Aircraft stripper and a toothbrush.

Wow-Agemax, you got me. Beer and late night messaging REALLY DON'T MIX! I laughed my butt off, I can't believe I wrote that. What a dork. But I am hungry and blue crabs would be AWESOME right now!:-\\\

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but wouldn't the etch primer eat through any tape and then possibly ruin the inside of the carbs?

No. If you have the etch primer so thick that it eats anything, you have bigger issues. You only need one mil to achieve the etch properties desired. That is not enough to "eat" into anything.

It doesn't effect the tape at all. Body shops mask and use etching primer all the time. In fact, that's where I get my primer. I sell automotive and industrial spray booths.

Oh, it's a spray? I thought it'd be something you'd paint on.
