Painting tailpiece and fender with Eastwood 2K advice

Hey guys,

In the interest of trying to get this information succinctly, I am asking for tips on repainting the Bandit tail section and front fender using 2K paint and clearcoat.

Question 1: What grits of wet/dry sandpaper do I need to buy?

Question 2: How many coats of paint are sufficient? The front fender is silver, but the rest of the bike is black, which is what I will be using.

Question 3: Do I sand between every coat of paint?

Question 4: How many coats of clear?

Question 5: Do I sand or do I polish the clear?

If your parts are clean and only need a re-spray, 600 wet and dry will set you up for the new base coat. If there are scratches that need to be removed, depending on how deep they are may require anything from 180-400. 400 will remove just about anything that doesn't get into the plastic, 180 will work to get out deeper scratches..but that may also require a bit of filler, followed by primer. Not seeing your parts makes it difficult to say for sure. No need to sand between coats. A big waste of time and materials. Three coats of any base coat color should be plenty to cover, same for the clear, at least three, maybe four. Sanding and polishing the clear is always nice to remove orange peel and to get it glass smooth. Start with 800 go to 1000 then 1500 and finally 2000 grit. For buffing, grab a good multi-speed drill with an adapter and a set of pads you can get at any auto paint store. Coarse compound with a wool pad followed by a lighter compound with a yellow pad followed by a black pad will give you a nice finish.
