    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Has anyone bought high temp paint, the "rattle" can style, and painted their top end? My top end looks pretty bad and have tried to polish it up and was thinking I could clean it up and then spray on a few coats of high temp paint. The only thing I fear is it buring off or flaking off after a long ride. OH btw its an 80 GS450S.
 
sure have! I used the VHT spraypack of "engine wrinkle paint"


Works well!

Use ANY ENGINE ENAMEL though, its a much better, high temp paint!

Also ensure you leave correct drying time etc else it will peel / flake off!
 
Sweet! Going to do that today, along with fix some spots on the frame that the previous owner let the battery leak and it has eaten the paint.

Before you attack those spots on the frame make sure you use something on the spots to nutrulize any acid residue that may still be lingering. As I say this the only thing I can think of is baking soda and "copious amounts of water", as the Chief Corpman on the USS Valley Forge was fond of saying.
 
I took off the swing arm and other parts that were covered with acid and ran them through a glass beader and then soaked them in baking soda and water. Ran them through the beader once more and painted them. I ended up painting them with the same paint I used on my top end. It was an engine enamel, I had enough left over so I just used what I had. Used 2 cans of degreaser on the engine and a presure washer with hot hot water. Used a 1/4 copper tubing attached to an air blower with 150psi behind it to dry it off and get rid of the dust.
