    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I picked up a small parts cleaner at Harbor Freight about a year ago and am getting around to setting it up.

The Degreaser I bought at Harbor Freight is non-corrosive, non flamable, and biodegradable but has ventalation warnings and contains 2-Butoxyethanol and sodium metasilicate (?).

I am thinking of using simple green which is non-tox and biodegradable but does not have all the ventalation warnings.

I want to put the unit in my basement.What are you using for degreaser, concentration and where do you have it located?
 
As a general rule, I NEVER use anything from Harbor Freight on anything I actually value. Also, what are you cleaning?

Oh, did I mention, don't use anything from Harbor Freight?

Not that I have ever bought from them, but why??
Have a catalog but use it as a reference of tools.
Is quality= low prices??
 
Everything seems to break after .75 uses. If I can't trust a hammer from Harbor Freight, I'm not going to trust their chemicals on my bike. Yes, price is in direct relation to quality.
 
I plan to use it to degrease engine parts, aluminium, zinc plated bolts, maybe some small painted steel items.

I can see your point about questioning the quality of the Harbor Freight products given the cost.
 
Also, degreaser is cheap. You can pick up a can a Gunk for a few bucks. I've used that before, works well. If you do plan to use what you have, test it on some inconspicuous parts first. Good luck!
 
This is my general rule for Harbor Freight. If you're not an expert and frequent user of their tools, you'll be fine.

I don't expect may professionals to use Harbor Freight as their main source of tools. If you're going to buy the tools they offer, don't expect them to hold up as well as a higher priced, name brand tool.

While HF may not be for the professional, it serves the Saturday mechanic well.

Simple Green and Purple Power can damage Aluminum if the metal is hot, purple power will damage it even cold so you need to dilute and rinse it off afterwards. These cleaners, while non-toxic, can create a vapor hazard of agitated enough, The mist they form will burn your nose and eyes. I would setup under a window and even put a fan in the window to be sure.

Safety-Kleen has chemicals that clean and are rated for this. I would look into getting some of their stuff.
