A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

A few Harley tuners have tried the Krank Vent on dynos. Harley is their target market but Harleys already have a valve that serves the same function. The tuners couldn't find any hp in these vents because of that and there probably just isn't any to be found.
But do dynos really simulate driving conditions and wind forces? Or maybe the wind has nothing to do with it. I don't know...just curious about venting options/ ideas...

What the other valves do not do is main a constant vacuum of no more than 3 to 5 lbs in the crank case. It is a one way umbrella valve that is ported to relieve any more vacuum than it is designed to maintain. It is designed for early model Evolution motors that do not have a valve. Dyno tests are useless in evaluating the benefit of the valve. I believe Hayden made a mistake in claiming there might be a HP gain. The only high speed benefit for the inline four is the possible relief of an air dam effect allowing a positive crank case pressure to build, and that may be debatable. As far as low speed power, smoothness and better gas mileage, it has worked for me and I don't think your bike would be any different.

It's just exhaust that took a slight detour around the exhaust pipe, and with a tiny amount of oil in it. The same mix of CO, hydrocarbons and whatever else comes out the tail pipe. It's the same stuff. The only difference is it leaked past the rings instead of passing down the exhaust pipe.
It all goes to the atmosphere just the same.
Catch the oil somehow and you are running as clean as anyone else.
Bike needs a small diaper and regular diaper changing (LOL)

Actually, on my old 750/1000, running a small catch can with a filter attached, I got about a teaspoon of oil after six months, it's just not a problem. The filter stayed dry, so no oil had escaped.

I like your idea of a catch can with the drain to let the oil run down into the engine, but really with a tight engine, there is next to nothing to drain back.
The screens in the top of the valve cover do exactly the same thing, and they do it very well.

More oil will leak out of your shifter seal.

I did notice that the 1)vent cover/top looked rather well designed for minimizing oil losses and also noticed 2) that the old tube from vent to airbox was in pretty good shape and 3)the old airbox wasn't very oily.
I've had poorly designed vent arrangements on other vehicles (VW scirroco comes to mind) and some tractors with awful piston rings/blowby....in comparison this old GS looks relatively blowby-free....although I've yet to produce any blowby or exhaust smoke for that matter....just trying to plan things out ahead to reduce redos/changes...
