    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pet cock/fuel tap from vacuum to free fall?

Hi.

Would switching the standard vacuum fuel tap with a standard, universal free-fall tap (with the addition of plugging the vacuum hose) work or would the hose start problems since it wouldn't be able to operate how it was meant to be? The current tap has 44mm between the center of both screw holes, so it would be easy to find a replacement.

Common thing to do. Most people seem to like Pingel taps - they sell the tap and the mount as well. Form my experiences with them over the years I think they're cr*p - the O ring fails far too easily.

Z1 do a good replacement (and for a lot less money as well).

Do you still have OEM petcock or free fall? So I just stick something in the hose and then duct-tape it. :)

Btw., do you perhaps know of any GS1000 or GS1100 (8-valve, not 16 valve) engines that are for sale in the UK?
 
I'm sure it's long gone but years ago someone posted on how to convert the stock petcock to non-vacuum operation. They even had an off position when they were done. I think it involved removing the diaphragm in the petcock, plugging the vacuum port, and filing the stops for the petcock lever off so it could be turned further so fuel wouldn't flow.

I don't think it's that adapter plate as that's offset - have a look at your tank holes to see.

To seal the vacuum hose just pop a little blanking plug over the nipple on the carb. Or, not so tidy, just block the vacuum hose with a screw etc.

Currently running OEM on all my bikes but have run with manual taps - and that Z1 tap is a good tap.

Pass on who is selling GS1000 engines other than breakers / Ebay. What's up with yours?

Will probably just put a new one on instead because I strongly suspect that the diaphragm and everything else rubbery is shot to hell in there. Much less problems putting in a new one than rebuilding and modding an old one.
