I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello

Im about to dismantle a Petcock on 1977 GS750, and have a replacement kit, i intend to take pictures as i go to make sure i put the thing back together right. Before i do has anyone here got any pictures or diagrams. Especially of the actual fuel tap construction which looks like it maybe tricky. Thanks

Toby

Just pay attention as you take it apart, it's pretty simple. Don't let the diaphragm spring fly away.

If you take the selector lever off and the plastic switch type thing in there, be careful not to break the metal spring in there... as I did.

Hey,

KEEP EVERYTHING ORGANIZED! This is most peoples failure point when reasembling parts incorrectly.

Question: On my 79 GS750 the petcock screen is missing. I have no idea where it went. Does anyone know where to buy or how to fix this? thank you!!

Screen?
The filter that goes inside the tank?

Not sure but K&L makes replacement kits that include the spring. Ebay has a lot, just type GS Petcock and maybe youll find what youre looking for.

I got mine from here but havent fitted yet so hopefully will be ok

Good luck, hope your rebuild works.

Seems the average success rate with petcock rebuild kits is hovering around 10-15% here. :o

.

I may have found the answer as after rebuilding again, i was blowing in the fuel nozzle and closing the vacuum nozzle with my thumb, when turning the fuel selector indicator air went through the petcock at "prime" setting which would indicate a bypass of vacuum but air flow stops with "on" and "reserve" setting. However i noticed that i had to push the selector dial in tighter whilst turning which ensure an air tight fit. I put the selector to "on" and put back on tank and now it doesnt leak. The lesson seems to be if i turn the selector make sure its pushed hard in, as the fuel indicator bracket which goes over the indicator doesnt seal the selector in with enough force. Not ideal but now i know its not the diaphram or vacuum valve.

Bend the wavy spring washer a little more, and it'll put more pressure on the valve.
