    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pingle Petcock - Anyone out there use them?

I am in the process of bringing a 79' GS1000 back to life. I've been going through Basscliff's steps and trying not to make newbie mistakes. When I first started the project I noticed gas in the oil when I was changing all the fluids.

Rebuilt and cleaned the Carbs, checked the valves (changed 3), and checked the Pectcock with a Mighty Vac. The Petcock seemed to be working like it should....gas under vacume, no gas with no vacume.

The Carbs should not be leaking.....the floats have just been set and all new o-rings have been installed during the rebuild.

Get it all back to get together, put the tank back on it, and go for a 3 or 4 mile test ride...have some electrical issues and brought it home. The bike sits over night and I go out the next day to trouble shoot the electrical problems and I decide to check the oil, just to do it. OIL IN THE GAS!!!

I ordered a Pingle Pectcock and an adaptor plate. I figure I'll just go with On, Off, or Reserve and do away with the vacume petcock.

Anyone out there have any thought?

Just a couple of points.

Besides remembering to turn it off after riding, be sure to remember to turn it ON before riding.

Also wondering how you got "OIL IN THE GAS"? :-k

If your vacuum petcock was working fine, why did you replace it? Would you be willing to part with the old one?

If you are actually getting gas in the oil (instead of "oil in the gas"), you have other problems with your carbs. Your VM carbs have overflow tubes that should vent any excess gas before it gets to the level where it will flow down the intake tubes into the engine. Make sure your overflow tubes are clear.

Since it appears that you have an overflow problem, I would guess that your inlet valves are not working properly, either.

And, ... your inlet valves would not be allowing anything through if the petcock was actually working.

Spending money on a Pingel was a rather expensive Band-Aid that will only cover the problem, not fix it. :o

I have had a pingel for maybe a year now. I went with one because the stock one couldnt flow enough gas.
My only problem with it is remembering to turn it off. After running the stock vacuum petcock for several years, I am finding it hard to remember. I lost a full tank of gas on the ground:( Premium stuff too!. My RS carbs dont reliably hold the gas at the inlet needle, supposed to be a known issue with them.
 
Go to thread tools and click on it and IIRC the delete is on the bottom.

Look in the lower right corner of your post, you will see a box called Edit.
Click on it, you will see an option to Delete.
Click on that, then look in the lower left corner, you will see Delete Options.
One of the options is to Delete Message.
Click on that, then look back in the lower right corner, there is a button for Delete this Message.
Click on that, the post will be gone.

Note that if that post is the first one of a thread (you started the thread), the whole thread will be gone.
