I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Plastics painting vs metal

I’m going to be doing some diy repaints on some plastic fairings/side covers. I’ll be using aerosol 2k paint/clear.

some of the pieces are pretty good shape and just changing color, others are bare plastic showing through.

Question is regarding priming stage. Am I using an adhesion promoter + primer for bare plastic? Do I need to worry about adhesive promoter and just start with primer if I’m simply removing clear coat and scuffing old paint? Any recommended plastic primer in rattle can form? Can I get away with something like rustoleum 2k ultra cover primer?

thanks,

Nic

These days it's better to stick to one manufacturer. Not sure what brand 2K clear you're using. but it should be OK as long as your plastic adhesion, primer, and base coat are all from the same place. Dupli-Color makes a good product if you're going to use rattle cans. Plastic adhesion should probably be used on bare plastic parts, but if you're just scuffing up the paint that's already on the parts, I wouldn't worry about it. Use Dupli-Color's high build primer over all of the parts. It works really good and fills sand scratches. Sand the primer with 600 before spraying your base color and you should be good to go for paint prep.
