    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

That's not the flasher, it's "turn signal control unit". It hangs off the battery case.

The flasher is seperate and can be traced from this unit. Without modifications, both need to be in place for the signals to work properly.


Or course, it is possible you have a combined unit on yours, but doesn't make sense to me, as a flasher often fails, and that thing costs money.


The flashers at the auto parts store work great, and are way cheaper.
 
I agree with spchips...that is the control unit that cancels your flashers.

If you need a new flasher, just go to Auto Zone or Wal-Mart and get one. Find your old one to see if it's a 2-prong or 3-prong unit and get one that matches.
 
OOOO you can not just go to auto parts store and get replacement flasher as Suzuki made sure we didn't have that option and designed the flasher differently.

the GS flasher (with self cancel function) is three prong but how it works is different and a automotive three prong flasher wont work, a two prong flasher will work but you loose auto cancel.
 
Thanks guys for the reply but my bike alwready has an automotive flasher replacing the original. It works but for some odd reason, there is a 2 seconds delay before the flasher lights up. This is enough to make me feel insecure driving in traffic. I never know if i'm flashing in time. Tha is why I want to go back to the suzuki part. By the way, I bought my bike with the replacement flasher unit already installed. I do not know what the unit I'm looking for looks like. By the way I do not care if the flashers auto cancel or not. I just want them flashes to blink.

Your first link is the part you want, it is the same as what I have for a spare.

Your second link is for the electronic ignition igniter. You probably don't need one (yet), and I have one just like the one in the auction, but it does not fit my '82.

Your third link is for the turn signal cancelling unit. If yours was removed before you got your bike, this one might be nice to restore that function.

There are two different parts being referenced here. The flasher control unit is the self-cancelling mechanism. Most of these have already failed or will fail shortly. Most GSers remove them and cancel the turn signal manually. They are proprietary and very $.

The flasher relay unit is responsible for the actual flashing of the signal lights. This is generic and you can use any that have the right configuration of prongs. I bought one for $5 at a local M/C parts discount store. I would recommend getting a generic motorcycle flasher relay as the automotive one may have too much resistance to flash quickly enough. Mine is pretty quick.

Sorry, I can't since I'm not at home now. I just grabbed the first one I came to that had the same #prongs as my old unit. It was not designated for any particular motorcycle.
 
Leon (Focus Frenzy) mentioned above that, although you can get a standard automotive flasher to work, you will probably lose the auto-cancel function. If the first unit in your list of three links is still available, that is the one you want.
