    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Are the pairs exactly even or is there any off set from each other?
 
Alright piston check and oil filter dissection next will report back be home in a couple hours

dead even within reason..if the crank was twisted you could see it...not talking a few thousands.
 
i just listened to your other video and when you rev it i hear the same sound only a lot less noticeable.

did the crank check had a rod and marked a reference point and all match each other so I think we are good there.

huh I kind of here it didn't even notice wonder if that was before or after new tensioner spring. looks like it was after, made the video on june 3rd I received the spring may 30
 
you guys think I can start the bike and very carefully and slowly turn the tension nob to release some pressure to see if I get any change in the noise?
 
I know you're not supposed to, but I do it. Go slow and easy, when you hear a difference let go, if the noise goes back to what it was, you know the tensioner is working.
 
well heres what I did, started bike and started to turn tensioner nob no difference, so I thought spring is new probley going to hold well, so slowly started to unbolt the tensioner ( I know bad idea but don't care at this point and was desperate for some kinda of sign) had the tensioner unbolted 1/4 from cylinder no change what so ever, so iam leaning towards a bearing somewhere in the crank ( its still hard to convince myself its a crank bearing)

well in other words I think a engine tear down is on order starting with head and clylinder block. what you guys think givin what has been tried?
 
I know this won't help much at this point, but the more I listen to your video, the more it sounds like bearing noise.
 
cut the filter apart.

"after days of thinking...thinking about the whirring sound i kinda of remember buying an 83ES with the engine off of it.
sold the roller and the engine to 2 different people.
the engine turned out to have a similar sound after installed..
turns out the crank had rusted from bad storage(basement) and was eating itself up."
 
My friends 821100e had quite a rattle (not exactly the same as your recording), but it would go away with the clutch pulled in. We assumed it was clutch rattle, but found out yesterday that the front sprocket had come apart and that was most likely the noise. Easy to check it.
 
so you guys think I should start tearing engine down?

we have established has nothing to do with tranny, clutch assembly,oil pump, starter and gears, so far cam chain but that will be determined I think with the head removed.

cut your filter apart........

heres the inside of filter, looks pretty normal nothing like omg look at that.
 
Sounds similar to my ES. It would come and go but got really whiny.

After tearing it down I found a main bearing was toast.

nothing between the filter wafers when you spread them open?
if the crank is eating itself i have always found the material in the filter.
maybe pull the pan and sump...have a look around.
i am stumped.
 
I think if it was in the pan I would have seen something in the oil buts its clean, I can take off anyway. Did closer inspection of filter spreading it apart etc and cant find really any eveidence of metal or rubber
