DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

please listen to my noise!

update: pushed on cam chain guide seemed normal, but still couldn't tell if maybe worn threw, I pulled the head and cylinder block and found a barely worn cam chain guides:(, I pulled the oil pan and found some metal flakes not howl lot but some bigger then I thought pieces I took a picture kind of hard to see but what appears to be white dots are metal flakes there about tip of ball point pen size maybe little bigger. allot of smaller pieces. idk if that's a sign of something but that's where iam at.

A little late but you missed the part where you can split the cases with out taking the head and barrels off.

can get the crank out with the pistons on though...
also can't service the rear guide with the cylinder on..
but you knew this already:D

I think you might misunderstand me.

The OP is in a "hope and a prayer" phase. His only hope is he can find the noise without it being the crank and his only prayer is that he can find that out before he completely disassembled the motor.

Baring a "hope and a prayer" miracle, he is looking at a ship's anchor, and having it in one piece would be more convenient while he looks for a nice black motor or forgoes the experience all together.

I certainly dont' have your experience working on these engines, but I do have enough first hand experience of my own to feed an analytic problems solving approach.

And yes in plain english I have R&R ed jugs at least a couple 3 times and split/unsplit a set of cases and sorted out broken rear tensioner guides as well.

i guess my point is that there is nothing in the bottom end that splitting the cases can repair.
it's not a transmission issue...not much else you have access to while the case halves are apart while the top end is still assembled.

That fact and your point did not escape me. The "hope and prayer" is finding something that is making the noise that is not the crank.

The point is mute, as he is looking for another motor. Now to just put the one he has back together and push it into the corner which was my point.;)

"The point is mute" Thats moot, not mute. Just like "brakes" not "breaks".

FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!! It is the main bearing to the right next to the cam chain sprocket, its nice and rough when you spin it while the rest are smooth. iam surprised its a bearing only has 29k on it everything else looks barely worn. but I bought it with 20k idk its past.

you guys have a ball park estimate for sending crank off for new bearings and a once over?

iam guess either part out bike or motor from something else

have a nice set rs 36 smoothies and gpwerks exhaust I might trade.

Hope and a prayer dashed Pics please when you can. Is it just rust damage, particulate matter or something else?

you need to talk to JP or buy a used crank but....
i see that it will be as cheap or cheaper to buy a black engine as an upgrade.
remember.......**you have value in your cases and even your crank(core value 100 bucks)**
you have choices to make.

I have a crankshaft for you. At least I think I do, it came with a 1980 1100E, I think that's what it's for but not 100% sure.

PM me to figure it out.

I figured it was a main bearing.

mine started sounding the same.

Terry is right. There is still value in the crank. I ebayed mine with bum bearing for around $125. Big end cranks hold value.

I have a spare 83e crank that I may or may not be using for a build...

Nic

Send the crank to John Pearson. Bite the bullet, spend a little money now, have it done RIGHT, & do it once. Then you can move on & not have to worry about that part of the motor ever again.
Ray.

After you mentioned that, that be came the prime candidate.
