A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi Ray , John Pearson what shop does he work at some thing to put in file just in case , might need him someday .,,

Kurt,
Sorry about your loss. But thanks for putting up all the video, pictures, and shakedown info. I was biting my nails reading this whole thread. Great entertainment.

Hopefully you continue this thread with what you do now. I'm super curious.
Whole used motor? $600?
Repair the crank? $350? (total guess)
Buy used crank? $250? (total guess)

I sold my silver 82 motor for $600 and bought an 1150 for $700. FYI. Nice time to upgrade? Or find a hotrod 1100 on the cheap?

Yes I will keep updated think iam going to call john tommarow see what he says and cost. Have gs750 know to ride till the 1100 is going.

called john today nice guy, he said min of $500 to take crank apart replace couple bearings and reassemble. Worse case scenario it would be 1000 to build a very strong crank rods etc. So I think I might be shipping him a crank.

You can get a whole 1150 motor for that. and still have a complete small end 1100 motor ???

If you know of one let me know, it could months or longer till I find a,motor then still shot in the dark if it's good. Seems like finding a motor is rarity. At least this oway I know it's good and better then what it was

That is true, but there are two elements you are leaving out:

1.) A twisted non welded crank is pretty common, so the likelihood of your engine being good for hopup was marginal at best.
Either it would/could have been twisted or it might have the rare bearing issue.

2.) There are very few crank problems on welded cranks (83 1100E or 1150). It is rare either for twist or bad bearings.

So the rare occurrence of the bearing problem to a problematic "non-welded" crank, should not lead you to believe there are high probability problems with welded cranks. But unless you drop the $1000 you will not know for "absolute certain", however you will know with great certainty.

Welded cranks are very reliable for general and spirited street use as long as there was some oil in the engine.

kurt be aware you will want to upgrade to a large taper crank throw plus all the SC/rotor parts to match...not cheap.
tbird on here has a spare big end crank complete.
maybe you guys can do a deal.

But do I really need all that. I agree with welded crank going back in either having my welded or another crank. I've decided bike is going back to bone stock exhaust airbox everything. So iam not racing it or modifing it. So having my crank bearing replaced and welded be Sufficient?

the small taper can bite you in the azz at any given time.
this is why suzuki made the change in 83.
i would roll the dice on a used 83 complete set up but thats just me.

Stock SUCKS!!! LOL! Unless you are doing a restoration of course. More power is ALWAYS a better thing with one of these & if done correctly will last you a looong time.
Ray.

I agree with Ray! Too much power is almost enough. This was a great thread to read and we had a determination of the problem...Cool
Curt

So far I think bike is going to sit till somthing shows up, 83 motor or crank or maybe even 1150 motor. If any knows of anything please let me know. Hopefully this 750 doesn't take a crap to. You put 1100 head on 1150 Lower? Anyways thanks guys a bunch
