    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just installed a set of Mac 4 into 2 exhaust on my GFs 81 GS650GL. Then installed new plugs, set pilot screws on carbs 1 3/4 turns out, synched (as close as I could, #2 carb would not match but was much closer than what it was set at). Just took a 70 mile trip, mixed riding, last 10 to 15 miles at about 60 to 65 on highway. Checked the plugs and 3 are fairly good (grey color but not too dark) but the #4 cylinder is black. Any suggestions?
 
Could be a dirty filter if you have indivdual pods, could also be that the carb is flooding or the float level may be too high, or bad rubber sealing plug on the main jet. Should also check the spark plug cap may not be firing.
 
Thanks, first thing I thought of was possibly an improper float height. Didn't think of the main jet seal. No individual pods, stock foam filter (new). I don't think it's a sprak issue since the plug is not wet, just very dark. BTW, I did notice that the exhaust on that side has light smoke...probably due to richness. I hate to think that I may have to tear down the carb right as riding season is starting. My GF won't be too happy with that.

The first two things that come to mind are 1. bad spark plug boot 2. float height to high.
