DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Two pod questions you guys maybe able to help me with.

1. Any problems with them in the rain or cold weather?

2. Since you're taking away half of what is holding the carbs in, do you have to add any bracing to support them?

I have an 82 850GS with K&N pods (the round ones for around $160-180) and a V&H 4-1 pipe. Yes the jetting, and everything else is a bitch, but the sound it makes is amazing. As far as holding the carbs up? Nice set of clamps from the intake boots and then clamp those K&N's on nice n snug. There really is nothing that holds those carbs up once the airbox is gone. I just realized after basically a year that one of my intake boots was the wrong size:oops:. When I took the carbs off a second time (today) looked and there was a minor size difference, but enough to basically mess up my whole idle/jetting issues. Got new ones on the way with o-rings and then gonna go from scratch on synching and so forth.

hey johnny do you remember what model V&H you used caue V&H told me to use the V12009 one, could you get me a pic of the way the meg. mounts?? i would really appreciate it.:)

Rain, if you use the cheap Emgo pods, yes. I think the K&Ns do a better job of protecting against the rain from what ive read. But the Emgos will suck rain water like a straw. Ask me how I know...The big danger here is sucking up enough rain water to cause hydrolock. If that happens, you'll very quickly find out what the weakest part of your motor is, cos it will snap like a twig.

to the best of my knowlege, all the GS 8v bikes use the SAME Vance and Hines pipe. I am not even sure if they changed the location of the rear mount, or left it to the buyer to devise a way to mount it. The pipe i have fits both my 8v 77 750, and my 8v 82 1100G. There is no change.

yeah man i dunno some guys on here said they changed the mounts in 82 i havent tried to mount mine up yet but hopefully all is smooth when i do.

I dont remember off the top of my head, but thecafekid is prolly correct. If you say what year/make/model you have, then V&H will pick out the correct pipe for ya.

yeah i emailed em before i bought my pipe and they said the V12009 is the one i need to use.

anyways i imagine since the K&N's are oiled it will aid in not allowing too much water in if it is raining

Yeah I bet they would but havent rode in the rain. Make sure you get the re-charge kit. It contains a spray cleaner and then a spray to re-apply that oil. Itl's just hand to have in case your pods loose that reddish color or have seen a lot of dirt/water or whatever. Hope this helps.

rely on the bike to get to and from work everyday...even in the rain. I think I'm gonna pass on the pods. Anybody know of another way to improve the intake airflow?

If youre looking to improve intake air flow, it only seems neccesary if you plan to improve EXHAUST airflow. Stock, these bikes get all the air they need. Actually, stock, a little more than they need really. BUT, if you are planning to install a 4into1 or something, it can CERTAINLY be done without removing the stock airbox. It would involve a slight upjet, as you would be improving overall flow, thus leaning things out a hair, but a DynoJet or FactoryPro kit will give you exactly what you need to run JUST a pipe, and even if you decide to go to pods later on, you'll have it if you go ahead and get the Stage III kit (as it includes Stage I as well)

cafekid where did you find the said pods at?
