Poeple Sighting our bikes

Went for a ride on the Blue ridge Parkway the other day and was taking pics. Pressed for time, I was really pouring on the throttle between pullovers that i wanted pics from. Pull into one and park, get my camera out and up comes a bunch of Harley riders. The pullover was full of them. Group of guys doing a week long trip. They heard me coming and wanted to know what the hell I was riding... One of them recognized it and said his first bike was an 84 GS. Took one look at mine and wanted to know what I had done to get the big tires on! They took pics of my bike and we talked awhile. Pretty good group of guys.

At one pullover their was another Harley group all wearing patches and sporting their club regalia... Hell on Wheels. Heard one of them say " look at that old suzuki! Bet it flies.." but none of them acted like they wanted to be very social....

I stopped by the bank a couple days ago to put some money in my daughters account. She is a junior at the University of Kentucky and well.....she needs money, I think at this point I own a classroom there.....Anyway as I'm standing in line I notice a car has pulled up behind the GK and the driver is giving it a serious looking over. My eyesight isn't what it used to be at a distance unless I have my glasses on and I couldn't see the driver very well. I figured I should walk outside and what was going on. As I walked outside I realized that it was the koolaid kid !!!! I hadn't seen George in awhile and we had a nice talk in the parking lot. My wife and I recently moved to the eastside of Indy and I knew we lived close to George but, come to find out he's only about a mile away. Al in the pic below is also very close to where we live now. It's nice to have GSR members closeby.

Y'know, I love seeing pictures of the forum members. When you've read enough of their posts, you start to get a sense of their personalities and then a picture starts to form in your mind. Love bursting the bubble by seeing their real appearance.

I thought I would just get blown all over the place by cars and trucks, maybe keep it in the right lane the whole way. I ended up leading the pack I love my GS1000.

Oh, I do that all the time with any bike.

Until there's no incoming traffic and they can overtake me.

Was probably the only sportsbike rider in my country who strictly obeyed speed limits. Not anymore, though. The bike is out of commission and will probably be sold as a crashed bike once the matter is settled with the insurance company. Am looking for a Roulette Green Speed Triple instead... as soon as I saw it I fell in love with it.

I can't dictate how many times people have come to talk to me about my bikes...especially my GS and my old CX (what kind of Guzzi is that?). Most recently I come out the city hall of this little town a bit north of Lubbock to find some guy and his wife taking pictures of my GS in the parking lot.

Came out of grocery store this morning. Was a guy walking out ahead of me, and he goes straight to my bike and stands there looking at it.
WHen I got there he asked me "What year is that?".
I told him.
He made some complmentary comments.
(this is how such conversations usally go. I am wondering if this is some guy that just likes to talk or if is someone interested and expereinced with bikes.)
Then he makes a few comments about being a nice day, and not going to be many nice days remaining and such. Sure a nice day for a ride and such comments.
(yah, yah, I am trying to get somewhere at a certain time)
Then he says "oh, that is not a goldwing, what is it?"
So I tell him abit about it being factory stock, and was about the time GoldWings also first had stock fairing and bags. He didnt seem interested.

Also..how did the factory fairing work,keepingyou dry,warm etc? ..I ride a Yamaha and put a Vetter on it,thought it looked better,with the optional lowers it doesn't do too bad.

Picture in Grand Haven Michigan. If you are interested in the locomotive, you can do a search on the name and number you see on it. There is also a coal tipple and a few other restored rail cars at that location.

That picture of the bike is when it had a cut-down windshield on it (as are all the photos in that albumn). I have since found a stock one (photos in other albumn). Fairing does real well. If have hands on inside of grips then completley out of the wind. If move hands to outside of grips, then can get a breeze up arm of jacket. Nice and calm behind that. That fairing stock on 1100GK.

THis is kinda on the topic.
Someone (you) that has spotted my bike (although online), and is asking questions.

I like all bikes of the UJM era...always have a hundred questions of a bike I have never ridden.But when I see a bike with a train in the back ground...that be my other hobby.
I have been seeing a lot of Suzukis the past few years but almost all have been nakid...biggest problem is I haven't been able to talk to a rider.I see very few Kaws and the ocassional Honda from back then and very rarely see another UJM Yamaha.
Do you know if that steam engine is stored there all the time?

So, I was posting about talking to people that are looking at my bike.
So, let me ask you this, when you are looking at someoneelses bike, and if you do have occassion to talk to the owner, I bet you do ask questions or make some statement to let them know that you have an interest and knolodge of such bike.

Maybe when someone asks me "what year is that?", I should ask them if they would like to take a quess.

About the locomotive (if that is the proper term): Your vidio link was of the 1225 (1225 used in the Polar Express movie). This one is the 1223 here in Grand HAven. I will PM you some more specific information. But in gerneral, yes, the 1223 is always here in Grand Haven, doesnt move, hasnt moved in years. Parts were taken from it to repair the 1225. I remember the 1225 from when it was on Michigan State Univ campus. So both the 1223 and the 1225 are in Michigan.

I will ask simple questions,how long ya had it,looks like stock exhaust,ever have to go thru and clean all the electrical connections yet,carbs,cam chain,taken any trips on it,note mileage,like the hard luggage,did it come with that.........what ever floats my boat at the time...but if the guy/gal seems to be in a hurry..."Nice Bike" and walk away.
One other question I might ask is..can I take a picture of it.
