    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Power loss after putting in unleaded fuel...what to do?

As the title states, I mistakenly filled up with unleaded fuel, instead of LRP. The bike has lost a huge amount of power and now hits only 60km/h tops. Would the fuel account for this?
A friend reckons I could put two capfulls of 2 stroke oil in the tank, but I don't want to take chances. Also, the engine states 10w40 oil, but I could only get 20w at the service station. Is 20w ok? I live in Cape Town and it is pretty warm.
Any advice, please?
 
Main concern is the power loss, seems like it can't just be the fuel...
 
We use unleaded all the time, we have no choice in the matter, so the "unleaded" part should not matter. However, how fresh is the fuel? It is not unheard of to have water in the tanks at the station. Try draining the float bowls and the tank, fill with known-fresh gas and try again.

Oil. You say 20w. Was there anything after the w? Like 20w-50? A straight 20 oil is too thin for normal use, but a multi-weight 20w-something (usually 50) is fine, but recommended for warmer temperatures, which are probably ending for you.

Right so...turns out that actually the bike is only firing on left side, no spark on right
 
This has to be electrical. The head light also only goes on when set to bright.
 
Believe you might be right, though I'm hoping it's just a short somewhere. I'm going to ask in the electrical sub forum.

Just a quick update. Firstly, thanks to all who weighed in here, appreciate your time and trouble. Secondly...it turned out to be just a dirty plug, both cylinders are firing again! Sorted it myself, feeling very happy. The headlight therefore must be unrelated and probably just requires a bulb.
 
The question about valve adjust was never answered.
 
A blown bulb can mean a regulator not regulating properly. Usually it just means a blown bulb, but I would check on the voltage at the battery with the engine running to make certain that with a fully charged battery at 5000 RPM you are not over about 14.5 volts.
 
Apologies! With regard to valve adjust, not sure. It's next on the maintenance list.
 
Watch those Fowling plugs, I went through four sets of them before I realize my float levels were not adjusted properly!
