A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Problem with start and what are these wires for?

Do you know if it was re-jetted for the pods and 4-1? Are those real K&N pods? With the CV carbs it's considered extremely difficult to get them to run right without a dynojet kit.

That you need to full choke to start it at all suggests lean, and that's what I'd expect with pods and not re-jetting.

Greetings and Salutations!!

Hi Mr. trinitysj,

It dies when you give it gas? The carbs need to be properly cleaned. The air intake system must be in good repair, no leaks and a properly cleaned, lightly oiled air filter. It's all explained in the links below. I've got lots of GS850G goodness waiting for you.

Now let me dump a TON of information on you (click the links below) and share some GS lovin'. :D

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

ok to answer some questions.

1. the bike was rejetted and carbs cleaned out about 10 months ago. it would start with no choke and ran like a dream with the K&N. (yes those are actual K&N filters)

2. it was run for about a month and then let sit. it WAS garaged so it did not sit outside. I took off the top cover of the #4 carb and it was clean as a whistle. (not that that says anything)

3. the side covers are fabbed from diamond plate. they are not the original.(as not much of the bike past the tank is original)

4. they are micuni(?) carbs i saw that on the top of the carb when i took off the cover. it seems strong. once i recharged the battery. it will start half choke every time with no hesitation. did a little work on it today.

that seems like it for now.

For all the help that you guys gave me, Thanks... I did the carbs yesterday. was a piece of cake after I got them done. Did not think it would have been so easy.

Took it out for a ride. was Strong, Really Strong. then when i got home realized that the vacuum hose was not hooked up to the tank. hooked that up and it was even better... WOW.. not too bad for $600.

will work on the look of the bike now, to get it un-fraken-biked. that will be the fun part for sue.

any way. thanks.

so i fixed the wires that were severed.. however I still have no fuel guage reading.. did I do something wrong?

You might need to trace the wires to the headlight bucket bundle and the gauge itself, make sure they still go there. The gauge float might be stuck too, or the PO may have removed the float for some unknown reason....

i traced down the wires and they were the right ones.. put a new connector on it so that it could be disconnected... will check the sending unit next to see if it is there or working at all... thanks guys.

Hi,

Did you notice the fuel gauge sending unit repair guide on my little website?

The hose to/from to the cover over the fuel gauge sending unit is only a drain in case of a gasket failure and should be routed down past the battery and onto the ground and should be open at the end. The vacuum to fuel petcock should from the #2 carb and go to the small nipple on the fuel tap.

Yeah that was the vacuum hose i was referring to. it was on the #2 Carb and went to the port on the petcock.. hooked that up and it made a difference.
