All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

To all who have been reading this thread:

As of a couple days ago, without notice, Photobucket decided to cut-off it's 3rd party image hosting unless you subscribe for $39.95 per month. Thus, all of the embedded images in this thread will no longer automatically appear. The photos can still be seen, but you will have to right-click on each individual photo and open them in a separate window. I need to figure out how to migrate all of this to another site, as I have no intention of paying over $400 per year and Photobucket can go eat a buffet of dic*$...

So frustrated right now...

Yes Photobucket is f***ked. Use Flickr, far superior. The only way to move the photo's over though is to download them to your hard drive and them upload them to Flickr and replace the Photobucket pictures.

Oh, and for even more bad news, right clicking on any of your photo's does not bring them up to be seen. Weather you bring them up in a new tab or new window still does not show the picture.:(

I'm ffing irate right now - I've been on photobucket for 10+ years and had no warning of this BS. The migration of this thread to another service will take a very long time...

Pretty sure Photobucket has slit their own throat. I pulled all my photos and deleted them. Imageshack seems to be ok and charges about $20 a year for unlimited storage/hosting. Looking forward to the images returning.

Slow but sure I am working on it - everything has gone to Flickr...

UPDATE:
As of 7/30/2017, everything up to and including page 14 has been migrated to Flickr

It does not go unappreciated. I reference your thread here often for inspiration in my own build.

Thanks for the effort in swapping out all the pics. I'm sure Ian and I aren't the only ones who refer to this thread for inspiration and reference. It's been especialy helpful for me with reassembly, since you took such detailed pics of everything.

I had a hard drive get wiped and I had been slacking on backing up, so I lost a bunch of my "this is how this goes together" pictures I took when taking everything apart...

To all: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Sorry I have been MIA for the past few months - a combination of busy at work and laziness on the weekends. The goal this new year is to finish all of the picture updates, 1 page per day until everything is done.

Everything up to and including page 27 is updated.

How much did it cost you to get the wheels powdercoated? Still happy with the result?

Thanks!

If my memory serves me correctly, I think I paid just over $400 for the powder coating job on the wheels - they have two different colors plus a clear. Also, my coater was having issues with the wheels outgassing, so they had to be pre-baked a couple times and then primed. They still look awesome!

Folks,

With this post you are all allowed to call me a lazy a$$ - I was supposed to have all of the picture links updated in this thread almost a year ago, and I got lazy/busy/tired-of-updating-links...

However, to my surprise, Photobucket stopped charging extortionist prices for its services, and I subscribed.

In essence, ALL picture links in this thread are functioning. Pages 1 through 27 are hosted by Flickr, whereas all of the remaining original pages are on Photobucket.

It would kill me to see this thread get put in the circular file do to dead links.

Enjoy!

man, all that Flickr work you did. Well like everyone has said this thread would be a huge shame to loose and it wouldn't be nearly as useful without the pictures. If there was a tip jar I'd drop some coin for you for sure. Thanks.

Dude, I honestly just got fed up updating links - it literally took me half a day to do 10+ pages. Not the kind of thing I enjoy on a lazy sunday.

I also had other pages that got screwed up during the photobucket debacle, so this returns them to normal.
