    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Progressive springs GS 1150 - installation help needed

I`ve just bought me a pair of Progressives front fork springs for my `85 GS 1150.
I need answers on a few questions before I can do the installation.

A note following the springs, told me to make a 2 inch spacer.
Does that mean, that I remove the original piston/spacer and make a new one of a pvc tube? I guess I then have to place a washer between the spring andt the spacer.

What kind of oil should I use for the fork and what is the correct oil level with the new springs?

Any other things I should be aware of?

Hope you can give me a few hints :))

Make a spacer from PVC. pull the stock spring, install the new spring, install a washer,install spacer,install another washer,install cap. Ride like crazy.
 
Fork oil capacity:
UK E models.......268cc (9.43 Imp fluid oz)
UK EF models......280cc (9.85 Imp fluid oz)
US models.........286cc (9.66 US fluid oz)
Fork oil level:
UK models..........190mm (7.48 in)
US models..........180mm (7.09in)
I believe oil levels are checked, springs out, forks compressed. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Fork air pressure:
US models........4.3psi (0.3kg cm squared)
Doze.

I have to bother you with even more questions :)

When it comes to the fork oil level. Should I use the standard 190 mm level or do as the Progressive Susp. installation note, where it says that if the standard level is more than 140 mm, you should use max 140 mm??

And finally: The 2 inch spacer - shoul I include the 2 washer`s (tob/bottom of spacer) in this measure??

I don't think the thickness of two washers will affect the outcome much. If you're concerned, making the spacer 1 7/8 inches will make the ride VERY slightly softer, making the spacer 2 inches will make the ride VERY slightly stiffer....

But what do you think about the oil level?

Standard 190 mm or the 140 mm`s mentioned in the installation guide???
Saw in another note from Progressive Suspension that they recommended standard level.

I`still a little confused :))

When I put my springs in I used the factory suggested amount of oil. Mine is the Canadian speck and requires air in the forks even though they didn't recommend it I put the air in. This set up worked great and I ran the springs for 2 or 3 years until I put the gsxr forks on.
