    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cleaned up all the frame mounts for the engine, thinkin on polish and clear. Yeah I know, a bit anal but hey.. its apart and I am waiting on parts.

Ya see folks, it is a sickness.

In many cases, it starts with powder coating the frame.

Then as time persists, no bolt is clean enough, and waiting on parts becomes the norm. :p










Electroplating has become my best friend.

That's when I observed I had a problem... :D

I need to get cracking on mine....a new (to me) truck purchase, and prepping for a trip to Labrador/Newfoundland have put the GS ont he back burner. BUT, now that the trip got scrubbed, I need to get cracking!

Media blasted engines scare me. What did they blast it with? That grit gets inside everything, even if you seemingly have good plugs.
 
Boy you better prime the crap out of that Joe...that media blasted Alu is gonna be thirsty!

Yeah I had some concerns, plugged off the carb and exhaust ports with wadded latex gloves and told him to be kind in those areas. Overall it cleaned up pretty well. Kinda buggered up one of the side covers but it should polish out.
 
Kinda wondering about that....the stock paint did not appear to be primered.
Well, Im not an expert by far, and Ed, or Jim would probably know more accurately what was used and what is available TODAY, but I would assume Suzuki pre-painted and seasoned their parts before assembly. And I'd also assume, for them to retain their colour for so long after so many heat cycles, they probably used some sort of industrial grade paint/primer combo? Or perhaps they used a sealing agent on the alu prior to paint. Since, as Im assuming you're not breaking the motor down to paint, you dont have these luxuries, you'll probably want to prime/seal the surfaces pretty well before painting, or its going to use lots of paint before it looks good. And, if you use something like PJ1, Duplicolour or the like, it needs a few heat cycles to cure. Running the motor will do the trick, but prior to curing it will be soft, porous, and the metal may drink a bit of it up causing blotchy spots.. But I will leave this to the guys who know better. I personally have never blasted a bike motor before paint, because as most painters will tell you, old decent paint is a better primer than new primer...

Good advice Josh, there was no painting over the old paint it was peeling everywhere, it needed to be removed or it would have looked like crap. I agree some for of primer will have to be used just need to figure what.
 
Stripped off the covers for polishing and removed the valve cover. Next up adjust the valves and figure out the oil leak...
